Eva Mendes & Ryan Gosling Keep Their Love Lowkey: Rare Pics Of The Couple Together
Although many celebrities try to keep their romantic relationships private, it can be difficult for most — especially when everyone is walking around with a camera. But Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling seem to have succeeded in keeping their relationship on the down-low. In fact, we only see them together when they want us to, meaning Mendes and Gosling have mastered the art of not only saying they want privacy, but also maintaining it.
In a now-deleted 2020 Instagram post, Mendes explained to her fans why she doesn't post photos of Gosling and her kids. "As far as Ryan, I'll only post flashbacks of things that are already 'out there' (like pics from movies we did or stuff like that)," Mendes wrote (via Glamour). "My man and kids are private." In another since-deleted Instagram post from 2020, Mendes said Gosling was a great father, adding, "I feel it's best that I continue to disclose what I'm comfortable with but not involve him or my kids too much. It's not about being cagey or weird, it's just about staying private in a public space" (via E! News).
Because Mendes and Gosling have a relationship that's nothing but green flags, it's easy to understand why fans may want greater insight into this seemingly perfect couple. But considering that celebrities are often more likely to divorce compared to non-famous folks, Mendes and Gosling are actually doing right by each other and their kids. However, when they do appear together in public, it's definitely something to swoon over because these two are proving that celebrity marriages can actually stand the test of time.
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling sharing the stage at SXSW in 2015
In March 2015, Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling took the stage along with their fellow actors from "Lost River" for a Q&A at the SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival. Although the two weren't standing next to each other, the event was a big deal, as it was Gosling's directorial debut. While this was the first time Gosling directed Mendes, they famously met during the filming of 2012's "The Place Beyond the Pines."
However, as Mendes cleared up in a April 2023 Instagram post, it wasn't onscreen that the chemistry started. "Magic is Real," Mendes wrote in the caption. "We did not meet on set. The magic started way before but here's a little magic captured on camera."
Despite rarely being at Gosling's side in public, Mendes, who's one of the celebrities who had their first child at 40 or older, is definitely holding down the fort as a supportive partner. For example, she didn't walk the red carpet with Gosling at the 2024 Oscars, where he performed "I'm Just Ken" from 2023's "Barbie," but she did post a video of herself on Instagram outside his dressing room, wearing jeans and a baseball cap, with a caption reading, "Always by my man." Mendes has also posted photos and videos about Gosling's films, as well as viral GIFs of him, while expressing her love for him.
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling holding hands while attending an SNL after party in 2017
For Ryan Gosling, 2017 was a big year. Not only was he nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his performance in "La La Land," but he won the latter — making it his first Golden Globe win. During his acceptance speech, Gosling acknowledged Eva Mendes, but not by name.
"While I was singing and dancing and playing piano, and having one of the best experiences I've ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer," Gosling said (via YouTube). "If she hadn't taken all of that on so that I could have this experience, there would surely be someone else up here other than me today, so, sweetheart, thank you." Gosling also went on to tell his daughters, Amada and Esmerelda, that he loved them, before dedicating the award to the memory of Mendes' brother.
Later that year, Gosling hosted "Saturday Night Live" for the second time and was photographed with Mendes as they were heading into Tao for the after party. The two were holding hands as Gosling appeared to be guiding Mendes, who has undergone a head-turning face transformation, through the crowd. Although Mendes didn't comment on Gosling's "SNL" performance in 2017, when he hosted again in 2024, she did have something to say about the Cuban accent he did in a skit. "My Cuban Papi made this Cuban Mami so happy with this!! Years of hanging out with my Dad paid off," Mendes wrote on Instagram (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Eva Mendes joined Ryan Gosling on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in March 2026
While making the rounds for his film "Project Hail Mary," Ryan Gosling stopped by "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." During his appearance, Gosling said he wanted to celebrate Eva Mendes' 52nd birthday with the audience, and had someone go backstage to get her. It was the first time the couple had made an official appearance together in over 10 years.
Because the audience was full of teachers that night, New Jersey's North Bergen High School marching band came out to play "Happy Birthday" for Mendes, but not before she expressed her gratitude for teachers. "We owe so much to you guys, you're so underpaid ... I had so many amazing teachers mentor me, and I just want to say thank you to you guys," said Mendes. The couple even exchanged a quick kiss, that Mendes blocked audiences from seeing with her hand.
Two days later, Mendes thanked Gosling and the marching band on Instagram. "What a beautiful memory. And a special thank you to all the educators in the audience. We need you now more than ever," Mendes wrote. "Lastly, my man ... I'll get you back for this." Whether it was a staged moment or not, it was lovely to see Gosling and Mendes together again.
