What Top Gun Bombshell Kelly McGillis Looked Like Decades After The Film
In the 1980s, actor Kelly McGillis appeared in major Hollywood movies alongside some of the biggest stars of the era, like "Witness" with Harrison Ford and "The Accused" with Jodi Foster. Of course, she also took our breath away as part of the original "Top Gun" cast as Tom Cruise's love interest. In short, she was a top talent and a bombshell to boot.
Despite this, she eventually decided to focus on her two daughters and her sobriety, putting her acting career on the back burner. She didn't entirely leave Hollywood behind, however, and has appeared in small roles through the years, including in 2018's "Maternal Secrets," giving fans their most recent glimpse of what McGillis looks like. She's one of many famous '80s actors who are practically unrecognizable now, which has probably been helpful when it comes to leading a private life.
In 2019, with buzz around the announcement of a "Top Gun" sequel, the actor told ET that she was not involved. "I'm old, and I'm fat, and I look age-appropriate for what my age is, and that is not what that whole scene is about," she explained candidly, adding, "I'd much rather feel absolutely secure in my skin and who and what I am at my age as opposed to placing a value on all that other stuff." Her honesty, one of the undeniable traits of a good person, cuts straight to the point: Her focus is less on the exterior and more on what's inside.
Kelly McGillis has transitioned beautifully to gray hair
While she's dabbled in acting here and there, Kelly McGillis, who turned 69 in 2026, reportedly works in drug and alcohol recovery, helping others find sobriety as she did. Leading a predominantly private life, she hasn't appeared publicly for years. But when she was still making appearances, she was one of the many celebrities who are proudly showing off their gray hair, as she transitioned to the shade beautifully.
In 2013, McGillis promoted "We Are What We Are" at the Sundance Film Festival with a gray pixie that looked healthy and chic. The following year, at a panel discussion in Pasadena, McGillis showed off a bouncy lob hairstyle. As it was only a year after Sundance, we have to question whether it was a wig or if her hair really grew that much in a year. In either case, she looked gorgeous. In more recent photos taken in 2019, she's seen wearing her white-and-gray hair in a casual bob. Ultimately, the former "Top Gun" bombshell appears to have evolved beautifully as a person, finding her purpose away from the bright lights of Tinseltown.
