'I Was Transformed': Nicole Kidman's Love Of Beauty & Fashion Has An Iconic Origin Story

Nicole Kidman's love of fashion and beauty began at a young age. The actor told British Vogue that trans clubs shaped her sense of style and her approach to all things glam. "That's where I [learned] to do my hair and makeup. I would sit down as a little freckled-faced red-headed girl, and they would make me beautiful," the 60-year-old star recalled during the interview. "I would walk out of there, and I would feel pretty. I would feel like I was transformed." Her understanding of beauty and fashion was further refined by her interests in literature and acting, culminating into her personal flair.

Rather reminiscent of the iconic origin story, Kidman appeared in Troye Sivan's music video for "She's the Best," which premiered in August 2026. The "Rabbit Hole" star can be seen strutting through a drag show dressing room in all black while smoking a cigarette. The scene seemingly serves as an homage to those who inspired and fueled her love for clothes and makeup, further reflecting her support of the LGBTQ+ community. "I believe in allowing people who love each other to share their lives together and to honor it," Kidman said when advocating for same-sex marriage in Australia (via Star Observer)."I really believe we should stay out of people's business, I just love when people love each other and want that to be acknowledged."

Nicole Kidman's love for fashion was also shaped by her grandmother

Beyond her club visits, Nicole Kidman's love for fashion also has familial roots. The star, who called herself "baby couture" as a child, grew up essentially wearing elaborate custom clothing because her grandmother was a dedicated seamstress. "My grandmother would make all my clothes," she explained during an appearance on the "Las Culturistas" podcast. "And she would put little collars on, little fur, and a little trim, and some ribbons. Everything was couture."

However, the couture looks didn't stop at Kidman, who has had a head-turning style evolution. Her grandmother would also make clothes for her dolls, which encouraged the actor's passion for fashion. Today, the mom of four's stylish roots are realized in her rocking elaborate designs by the likes of Balenciaga and Chanel, and serving as the co-chair for the 2026 Met Gala. Although some of Kidman's outfits have been total flops, her willingness to have fun and take fashion risks is noteworthy.
