Cosby Show Alum Phylicia Rashad Has A Famous Sister & They're Both Gorgeous Today

Phylicia Rashad is a familiar face to a generation of viewers, thanks to her iconic role as Clair Huxtable on "The Cosby Show." The beloved sitcom dominated television during its eight-season run from 1984 to 1992, turning the fictional Huxtable family and its cast into household names. Long before Beyoncé and Solange Knowles or Dakota and Elle Fanning became Hollywood's famous sister duos, Rashad and her younger sister Debbie Allen were making their mark on the industry. 

With undeniable talent, beauty, and a close sisterly bond, the pair became a dynamic force among the celebrities with gorgeous sisters. By the time Rashad landed her breakout role on "The Cosby Show," Allen was already a Hollywood force, earning an Emmy for her choreography on "Fame" and a Tony nomination for "West Side Story." In 1987, the sisters joined forces when Allen produced and directed "A Different World," the "Cosby Show" spinoff that starred Rashad's fictional family. Their bond has only strengthened over the years, with Rashad proudly supporting Allen when she received an Honorary Academy Award at the 16th annual Governors Awards in November 2025. The sisters dazzled on the red carpet, with Rashad showing off her gorgeous gray hair transformation in a sleek updo and shimmering gown, while Allen glowed in a patterned white jacket over a flowing white dress. Their mutual admiration for each other was clear when speaking with reporters. "This is since childhood. You know one great thing after another," Rashad told AP. "We watch Debbie with pride ... She brings honor to the art of dance and the industry of performing arts." Allen returned the love, sharing how much she loves her big sister: "She's my greatest fan. This is my shero right here."

Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen's sisterly bond goes well beyond Hollywood and into their approach to health and fitness. When Rashad joined Jenny Craig as a spokeswoman in 2009, Allen revealed that she encouraged her sister to prioritize her health by joining her on the weight-loss journey. "She's pretty when she's thin and when she's overweight," Allen told ABC News. "But you know, I hugged her one time. I said, 'Come on, let's go. Come on. I'll go with you. Let's go. We got to go down 25 pounds.'" Rashad admitted that she knew it was time for a change after a wake-up call. "One day, I walked up three flights of stairs and couldn't breathe," she said. "I knew that that wasn't good."

It had been years since Rashad dominated television screens as "The Cosby Show" matriarch, Clair Huxtable, a role that brought widespread acclaim and plenty of attention from fans. As years passed, Rashad came to embrace the more mature, respected roles her appearance brought her. "Weight gain has served me well," she said. "I mean, look at my career ... because people began to look at me differently, in ways they would not have considered me before."

As for their beauty secrets, the sisters credited good genes and a daily nap during an Instagram Live at the close of 2020 (per Essence). Their focus on mental wellness may also come from their mother, Dr. Vivian Ayers Allen, whom Debbie Allen credited with maintaining a positive outlook throughout life's challenges when celebrating her 100th birthday. "No matter what, you have to think positive thoughts, and that was the world we grew up in," she told Ebony.
