Behind every great star is a best friend, and Dolly Parton had one on her side since they were kids. In June 2026, the country legend took the time to honor her BFF Judy Ogle in a sweet Instagram post with a throwback pic of the two. "National Best Friends Day. I've always had a little bit of Tennessee with me at every point in my career, thanks to my best friend, Judy Ogle. She traveled with me, worked as my assistant, and was there for anything I needed. We had so many adventures and so many laughs — and I can't imagine my years on the road (or my life) — without her!" Both Parton and Ogle had the most iconic '80s hairstyles with their crowns teased super high, and the sides flipped away from their faces.

Parton and Ogle had a lot of fun back in the day, with the Grammy winner sharing a hilarious story about a New York City trip on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." She recalled the pair going to New York City and getting kicked out of the hotel because the staff thought they were prostitutes, only to be accosted by a man outside. "So I just pulled my gun out, and I just said, 'If you touch me one more time, I'm going to shoot you.' And so, he backed off ... Judy started laughing because she thought it was the funniest thing she'd ever seen,'" Parton continued. She and Ogle were often seen together, and were so close that many speculated they had a romantic relationship, but Parton was always quick to shut those rumors down.

Dolly Parton gave the world some of the most iconic quotes about love and friendship, and it's clear she experienced both in her life. In 1997, she spoke to Out about her bestie Judy Ogle, explaining, "We've been best friends since we were in the third grade. A lot of people have tried to link us, but I'm not the least bit gay." Parton added, "People think because she never married that she must be a lesbian, and that because we've been together, that we must be lovers ... But we're not lovers. If I was gay, I'd certainly never find a finer person than Judy as a mate. I'm as close to her just about as I am with my husband."

It wasn't hard for Parton to stay connected with her close friend as she aged, as Ogle was there every step of the way. "She was very quiet, I was very outgoing. So we made perfect friends. We went all through school together. She went to the army when we graduated ... As soon as she got out, she came to Nashville, and we've been together ever since," the "Jolene" singer shared with The Sun. It's rare to stay so connected with a childhood friend, but it looks like the pair were a perfect BFF match.
