Remember Donna From NYPD Blue? Gail O'Grady Is Still A Total Bombshell

Gail O'Grady is a three-time Emmy nominee thanks to her role as Donna Abandando in "NYPD Blue," which she held from 1993 to 1996. Her voluminous blond hairdos and alluring blue eyes helped define her character as the first police administrative aide for the show's Manhattan detective squad. Today, O'Grady is still a total bombshell, securing roles in shows like "Revenge" and "Criminal Minds." In May 2025, O'Grady attended the Los Angeles red carpet premiere of the HBO Max original series "Duster" in true Donna fashion. The actor, who turned 63 in 2026, posed in an eye-catching cheetah-print suit and her signature nude lip, a look her character Charlotte Dean-Ellis would have also worn with a lower cut blouse.

In August 2026, O'Grady shared a photo of herself at the event, noting how she missed the rest of the cast, which included Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson. Though the post centered on one of her more recent productions, a couple of her followers couldn't help but bring up her days on "NYPD Blue." One user wrote under the post, "You Rocked all the NYPD Episodes," while another noted that they rewatch the ABC series to see her. Other fans complimented the star's appearance, with one describing her as "breathtakingly beautiful." Interestingly, O'Grady's ability to completely embody the style and persona of her characters has helped her earn her roles in the past.

While playing Donna Abandando in "NYPD Blue," Gail O'Grady used her stylistic flair to land the role of Rowena in the 1997 film "That Old Feeling." The bombshell, who is one of the celebs that never misses with her signature style, auditioned for the role wearing a Chanel ensemble and leopard-print coat that stunned the director. Animal prints have been the new neutrals since 2023, so she was definitely way ahead of the curve here. "I think the only reason Carl Reiner hired me was for the coat," O'Grady told SouthCoast Today in 1997. "When I walked in, he said, 'We have to have that coat!'" For the film, O'Grady ditched her blond hair for a ginger look, proving she's a total bombshell with every hair color. Since then, O'Grady and her many characters have embraced a similar fashion sense, making her "Duster" wardrobe and Instagram posts all the more nostalgic. 

However, despite her iconic bombshell aesthetic, O'Grady felt her insecurities as a young adult stunted her success. "My life would have been better if I was more confident," she shared on the "Still Here Hollywood" podcast. "I wish I had believed in myself ... My life would be different if I had trusted myself more." Still, while many actors from her era have retired or disappeared, O'Grady and fellow '90s star Claire Forlani are aging like fine wine, and continue to expand on their decades-long careers.
