What The Leading Ladies Of Yellowjackets Look Like In Real Life

Fans have been eating up Showtime's "Yellowjackets" since its premiere in 2021, following along with the Wiskayok High School girls' soccer team after a plane crash lands them stranded in the Canadian wilderness. But how do they look in real life? Very different from their characters, that's for sure. The surviving Yellowjackets on the show are each played by two different actors, as the timeline of the show switches back and forth between the time of the crash in the late '90s and their adult lives in the present day. As a result, the show's hair, makeup, and wardrobe departments were challenged not only to create continuity between the teenage versions of the characters and their adult counterparts, but they also had to portray the evolution of the characters' appearances as they spend more and more time stranded in the woods — and these soccer players have been through a lot. For that reason, the creatives behind the show utilized makeup, visual effects, costumes, and hair to "showcase each character's wounds and healing journey," according to Patricia Murray, head of the series' makeup department on an interview with Hunger in 2022. "From product choice to application decisions — each actor began to visually become their character."

Of course, physically turning a cast of glamorous Hollywood stars into their traumatized "Yellowjackets" characters was no simple task. Many of the actors had to completely transform their look for the role, with some wearing prosthetic makeup, wigs, or even chopping off their own real hair on camera. Similar to what the "Game of Thrones" leading ladies look like in real life, most of the actors from the Showtime psychological thriller look drastically different without their characters' costuming, and their transformations are staggering. So let's take a closer look at the women of "Yellowjackets" and see what the actors look like in real life, as compared to their on-screen characters.

Christina Ricci has one of the most significant transformations in "Yellowjackets." She plays Misty Quigley, whose look is defined by an ultra-curly blond bob that sits just below her chin. Ricci wears a wig and glasses to fully embody the unsettling character, giving her a drastically different appearance from the dark-haired look fans are used to seeing her with, as pictured on the right in 2025. It isn't her first time being blond, though, as Ricci had one of the most drastic celebrity hair changes in pop culture history at one point when she went platinum blond in 2017.

Sammi Hanratty plays the younger version of Christina Ricci's character, Misty Quigley, in "Yellowjackets," and she too wears a curly blond wig for the role (though hers is a bit longer than Ricci's). Misty's wardrobe consists of nerdy clothing, while Hanratty also wears brown contacts and glasses to play the part. The actor, who has brown hair and blue eyes in real life, claimed she was "treated differently" when she was in character as Misty, telling Interview Magazine in 2021, "I got more self-conscious, and my walk even changed a bit. I just felt like a bigger target."

Sophie Nélisse stars as the teenage version of Shauna Sadecki on "Yellowjackets," whose adult counterpart is portrayed by Melanie Lynskey. Although Nélisse has naturally blond hair and blue eyes, she went brunette for the show to look more like Lynskey, who was the first to be cast for the series. Nélisse's hair was dyed a dark shade of brown for the role, and she also wears brown contacts to match Lynskey's eye color. After those changes were made, Nélisse practically morphed into Shauna, with the show's co-creator Ashley Lyle previously telling E! News in 2022, "She could be Melanie's daughter."

Ella Purnell plays one of the more glamorous team members of the WHS Yellowjackets: the team's captain, Jackie Taylor. Her character is known for being pretty and fashionable, with her costumes often leaning into a '90s suburban preppy style—think perfectly curled blond hair, thick headbands, and a lot of vibrant colors. In real life, however, Purnell has an edgier sense of style. Unlike Jackie, Purnell is naturally brunette, and she has a much more modern wardrobe, which she achieves by mixing trendy, contemporary looks while also prioritizing comfort and authenticity whenever she can.

Much like her "Yellowjackets" character, Natalie Scatorccio, Sophie Thatcher is known for rocking some extremely cool hairstyles, and she switches things up rather frequently. "It has gone through many stages," she told Allure of her ever-changing hair in 2025. A year later, Thatcher wore her hair in a long, fringey brunette style, as per the picture on the right, taken in 2026. Interestingly, the actor "just happened" to be sporting a bleach-blond shag cut when she got the role of Natalie, and somehow, the show's crew "thought it worked," despite the fact that the older version of Natalie, played by Juliette Lewis, ends up having dark brown hair.

Juliette Lewis plays the hardened, adult version of Natalie Scatorccio in "Yellowjackets," who has a particular punk-rock edginess to her in terms of style. As an adult, she has evolved Natalie's famous blond shag cut into a black fringe bob, and Lewis' real-life look isn't so different. She has experimented with shades of blond, like in the photo on the right, but her hair is often dyed a dark brunette shade like Natalie's. She has even incorporated some of her own grungy '90s style into her character's wardrobe, like the Dolce & Gabbana leopard-print pants Natalie wears in Season 1.

Jasmin Savoy Brown, the actor behind the teenage Taissa Turner in "Yellowjackets," fully committed to the role when she decided to cut her real hair during one of the scenes of the show. Brown sported her natural textured hair during the beginning of the series, before ultimately chopping it off for a pixie cut replacement. The actor was actually the one who came up with the idea to cut her own hair for the scene, calling it "One of the coolest things I've ever done" and also "really hard," on an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in 2022.

Fans don't get to see Courtney Eaton looking her best in "Yellowjackets," as her character Lottie Matthews has been put through the wringer, to say the least. On screen, Eaton is made to look like she has actually been trying to survive in the wilderness, so she is frequently seen with a dirt-covered face, distressed clothing, and unkempt hair. But in real life, Eaton couldn't be more different. The actor has an eye for fashion and frequently steps out in full glam on the red carpet, wearing stunning designer looks, much like in the photo seen on the right.

In "Yellowjackets," Liv Hewson plays the role of teenage Van Palmer, who is mauled by a wolf during Season 1. Van is left with some gruesome wounds to her face, which are created using special effects makeup and prosthetics. As the show goes on and Van's wounds heal, the scars on her face evolve into unique, jagged marks across her cheek and forehead. However, when the costuming and makeup are removed after filming, Hewson has flawless, glowing skin underneath. Much like their character, Hewson doesn't usually wear a ton of makeup, and their dewy, clear skin hardly needs it anyways.

Lauren Ambrose plays a gorgeous redhead in "Yellowjackets," and she has stunning naturally red hair in real life. After previously being asked — and refusing — to bleach her hair for other roles (like 2000's "Psycho Beach Party"), Ambrose fully embraced her natural look to play adult Van Palmer, the older version of Liv Hewson's character. For the role, she wears prosthetic makeup to mimic the remaining scars from Van's injury, and she looks like she could actually be related to Hewson. Ambrose is definitely one of the red-haired celebs who will make you want to try the flaming-hot look.
