What The Leading Ladies Of 2026's Sense And Sensibility Look Like In Real Life

Hollywood has been on a period-drama streak lately, and "Sense and Sensibility" is one of its latest offerings in 2026. The classic is one of Jane Austen's most famous works, and even though it was written more than 200 years ago, many parts of the story, such as the limited choices available to women, are still very relatable today. But what really makes it such a hit are the characters, the women of the Dashwood family, who must cope with life after the death of their patriarch.

Given that the story was written in another fashion era, the Dashwood ladies obviously aren't dressed like women from 2026. They wear corsets, bonnets, gowns, and shawls — clothing articles that are almost extinct today. Their makeup also leans vintage to transform the actors into proper women from the 18th century. As such, the leading ladies of 2026's "Sense and Sensibility" look very different in real life.

Elinor Dashwood represents the "sense" in "Sense and Sensibility." She's practical, rational, and is the sort to be more concerned with her family's welfare than with an outfit. In the 2026 adaptation, she's undeniably pretty in a natural way. She wears minimal makeup, a practical wardrobe, and long brunette hair in natural curls and bangs. In real life, however, Daisy Edgar-Jones is a lot more glamorous and is absolutely enamored by fashion. She's a brunette like her "Sense and Sensibility" character, but her locks are in softer waves with trendy curtain bangs.

As far as fashion, it's pretty difficult to put the actor in a box. Daisy Edgar-Jones has had a stunning style transformation with different eras dedicated to specific aesthetics. Over the years, we've seen her embrace a feminine, girly era, a comfy academia phase, a Hollywood-glamour season, and even a slightly edgy side. One of our favorite looks from the actor was the Stella McCartney dress she wore to the "Sense and Sensibility" premiere in Ireland. The white silk fabric, feathered shoulders, and dainty jewelry gave her a gorgeously ethereal appearance.

Outside of the red carpet, Edgar-Jones is just as stunning. After landing the part of Elinor in 2025, the actor shared a low-makeup selfie while holding a copy of "Sense and Sensibility." 

In "Sense and Sensibility," Marianne Dashwood's outfits don't have the refined stiffness one might expect from women of that era, and that choice is intentional. Her less conventional clothing reflects her free-spiritedness and Esmé Creed-Miles' take on the character. Interestingly, this is one thing that this version of Marianne and the actor behind the character have in common: a certain unconventional vibe. Creed-Miles favors dark palettes, edgy outfits, and wears a lot of dark makeup around her eyes, just like her mother, famous actor Samantha Morton, who is one of the leading ladies who stole the show at the world premiere of "The Odyssey."

What's really impressive about Creed-Miles' taste in fashion is that she finds a way to translate her aesthetic into casual and red carpet looks very successfully. At the "Sense and Sensibility" premiere, for example, she wore an Avant-garde dress that we can only describe as edgy-meets-Regency. The cropped blazer atop the enormous off-white skirt paid homage to the period drama and her own aesthetics. She looked bold, gorgeous, and impressively memorable.

Mrs. Dashwood is recently widowed in "Sense and Sensibility," and her outfits and style depict this. She wears a lot of black outfits and often has her hair up in a bun. However, even this drab styling does little to take away from Caitríona Balfe's good looks. In real life, the actor, who is also one of the leading ladies of "Outlander," is absolutely stunning. 

This isn't surprising given that Balfe was originally a model before becoming an actor. After she was scouted at 18, she moved to Paris, where she modeled for 10 years and walked for some of the biggest names in fashion, including Chanel, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, and Alexander McQueen.

One major difference between Balfe and Mrs. Dashwood is their hair. Balfe usually lets her hair down, and when she puts it up, she favors slick backs over the messy updos we see on Mrs. Dashwood. As a former model, Balfe still has her reach deep in fashion, so she's not one to stick to a certain aesthetic. She stuns in casual wear, elegant red carpet dresses, and even the occasional risky sheer outfit.

The 2026 version of Margaret Dashwood is played by the 15-year-old Bodhi Rae Breathnach. Although her film credits are pretty minimal, she's a rising star and has shown a lot of promise with her work in "Hamnet." Currently, Breathnach's socials are managed by her parents, but they still give insights into what she looks like in real life. The adorable freckles are real, and although she typically has her hair in more organized waves, she looks just as pretty as her on-screen character. More impressively, we adore the actor's age-appropriate style. Her real life wardrobe includes girly dresses, lots of tops and skirts, and gorgeous gowns on the red carpet.

Some of our favorite looks from the actor are the frilly frock she wore at the international shoot for "Sense and Sensibility" and shared on Instagram, as well as the blouse and skirt she wore at the premiere. It's a bit too early to say if Breathnach's style is purely influenced by her parents, but as she continues to grow in the industry, we'll have more chances to see how her personal style evolves.
