The Absolute Worst-Dressed Royals In Trooping The Colour History

For fashion lovers and aficionados, Trooping the Colour is how we vet which British royals have their finger on fashion's pulse and which ones sorely need a beginner course on style. Each year at the summer parade, which takes place every June to celebrate the official birthday of the monarch, we see looks that enthrall us, as well as others that have us cringing from secondhand embarrassment. Recently, for example, our roundup of the biggest fashion flops of Trooping the Colour 2026 had three truly unsightly looks from royals who wore yawn-inducing, outdated, and frumpy outfits.

This round-up has us thinking: Which royals are the worst-dressed not just for a particular year, but in Trooping the Colour history? We're not talking about those who made our list of the worst Trooping the Colour looks of all time, but are otherwise decently dressed. Rather, we're pointing to those who are permanent residents in Frumpyville, or consistently have the most puzzling fashion tastes for this highly publicized event (sorry, Queen Camilla). From repeatedly questionable outfit choices to simply tasteless dresses and inexcusable accessory choices, these royals certainly aren't making anyone's Pinterest boards with their parade 'fits.

Queen Camilla chooses the most boring outfits for the Trooping the Colour parade

Despite having made more than a dozen appearances at Trooping the Colour, none of Queen Camilla's outfits have ever given us any sort of style inspiration. In fact, without looking closely, one would assume she repeats variations of her unimaginative outfits each year. One of her worst appearances was the cream 'fit she wore back in 2013. Between the dull shade and the cookie-cutter design with silver touches on the sleeves, we were stifling yawns. Another white look made our list of the most unfashionable royals at Trooping the Colour 2025, not just because it was unimaginative, but because it looked like a nightgown.

Beyond her dress choices, we've grown weary of the accessories Camilla wears to Trooping the Colour year after year. From hats to gloves and clutches, she consistently picks pieces that have us crying, "Eesh!" It's not a recent development, either. All the way back in 2007, the queen consort wore a feathered gray eyesore with her golden coat, which was one of the worst hats we've ever seen at the event. More recently, in 2024, her basic gloves and patterned handbag had us sighing with boredom. The question is how, despite her immense wealth and connections, Camilla consistently serves these lackluster looks.

We'd like to have a few words with Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh's stylist

We'll admit that Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, has had some decent style moments. But unfortunately, her fashion misses at the annual parade are just too frequent to ignore. In 2012, for example, the duchess wore one of the most confusing outfits we've ever seen to Trooping the Colour. We're not sure what the two feathers on her head were, and we're confused by the strap across her waist that just had to match the out-of-place ornate sleeves on her gray ensemble.

Sophie also recently bombed at the 2025 Trooping the Colour, this time for appearing too frumpy in her green dress and pillbox hat. Similarly, she made our list of the worst-dressed royals at the 2024 Trooping the Colour with yet another boring look. It seems that, for the duchess, parade outfits either have to have too much going on or too little.

Unfortunately, Sophie's Trooping the Colour headpieces aren't much nicer than her dresses, and she seems to have an obsession with hats that look like birds crashed into them. At the 2005 Trooping the Colour, for example, her fascinator was an unappealing collection of what looked to be feathers from various birds placed haphazardly. Besides looking incredibly odd, it absolutely clashed with the neutral outfit she paired the hat with. The duchess repeated the bird-crash hat look again in 2026 with a white piece that looked like a seagull had crash-landed on it.

Princess Beatrice's Trooping the Colour looks aren't regal enough

Princess Beatrice often has a down-to-earth, regular-girl vibe, and doesn't seem to put on airs. However, there's a time and place for everything, and Trooping the Colour is not the place to show up looking like a school teacher. In 2015, for example, she ditched the customary fascinator for an embellished headband and chose a bland button-down silk dress that didn't seem to acknowledge the seriousness of the occasion. She did something similar in 2019, when she wore a pink-and-black dress that looked like something far from royal territory. Between these outfits and Princess Beatrice's most outdated looks we can never forget, this royal definitely needs some style help.

Another factor that cements Princess Beatrice's spot as one of the absolute worst-dressed royals in Trooping the Colour history is her love for odd-looking hats. At the parade in 2007, she wore a very peculiar beige hat that attracted attention for all the wrong reasons, from the way the feathers were attached to how plain it was otherwise. But an even better — or worse — example of Beatrice's unfortunate hat choices was the piece she wore to Trooping the Colour in 2016. From the out-of-place color to the orange-peel-like design, nothing about this hat made it fit for such an event.

Princess Eugenie's Trooping the Colour looks have left a lot to be desired

Princess Eugenie hasn't been an attendee at many recent Trooping the Colour events, but when she did attend, her outfits were certainly not up to par. In 2013, for example, she wore a white dress with black detailing that felt rather plain for the occasion. She added a blue-and-white fascinator, but it did little to elevate the look. Instead, it left her looking low-effort.

At the Trooping the Colour parade the following year, she showed up in a sandy, almost khaki, trench-style dress and an oversized cream hat that seemed to overwhelm her entire outfit. Trench-style dresses can be power outfits if styled right, but the way Eugenie wore this one looked like she'd given up trying to be en vogue.

Like her outfits, Princess Eugenie's hat choices rarely do her any favors and are part of why she's also regarded as one of the worst dressed royal wedding guests ever despite her beautiful features. At Trooping the Colour in 2010, she wore a red fascinator that looked like someone had attached a few straps of ribbon to a disc and called it a day. Things weren't much better at the event in 2012. Her earthy hat looked like a bird's nest, complete with feathers sticking out in every direction. We're all for bold millinery choices, but these two left us wondering whether anyone had stopped to consider how they would look before Eugenie stepped out.
