Glam caught up with Poshly’s Doreen Bloch as she navigates meetings with magazines, sharing insight from beauty buffs like you, and networking with brands during the CEW Insiders Choice Product Demo–sneaking email responses along the way. Here she shares a day from her ever-shifting schedule:
After dressing up, I have a cup of tea and whip up a quick breakfast of fruit or dairy-free yogurt, then walk up Park Avenue to the Poshly office which is about 10 blocks away from my apartment. When I arrive, I review key metrics of the business, including new accounts, new insights and financials before I tackle my inbox.
The Poshly business team members arrive, and we’ll review Poshly’s email and social media calendar among other projects in the immediate pipeline. Within an hour, it’s time to head over to the Condé Nast building in Times Square for a meeting with one of the publications. After the meeting, my team and I dorkily assemble to take a photo in front of the magazine’s logo for our social media content. But I admit, I also treasure those photos for the memories.
I try to beat the lunch rush by grabbing a Super Greens sandwich over at Pret…and sometimes a warm and gooey chocolate chip cookie.
After putting the finishing touches on a presentation, I get a call from front desk that one of Poshly’s investors has arrived to catch up on the latest milestones. After the meeting, I sneak in a few email responses before jumping on a conference call with a Poshly Insights client to review the data that shows which retailers they should pitch to carry their products.
I step out of the office to grab a soy latte from Starbucks before I have a call with Poshly’s Chief Technology Officer in San Francisco. We’re catching up about new hires on the technical team and new features on the site. Of course, there’s always more email to tackle before I leave the office, so I try to knock those out right after the call.
Tonight I’m stopping by the CEW’s Insiders’ Choice Beauty Awards Demo, which is one of the beauty industry’s go-to events. I network with reps from several brands and find out about new products. It’s like New York Fashion Week all rolled into one evening, but instead of fashion collections, it’s all about cosmetics.
A girl’s got to eat, so I usually compile a quick vegan dinner from stuff that’s already made: hummus and carrots, olives, and vegan dumplings from a box. Then, I head to the gym. My playlist usually consists of Maroon 5, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, or anything upbeat that gets me to move. Then I hit the steam room to decompress.
It’s still evening in California so I catch up with my family before I tackle another round of emails and do a little reading–either a book club book (recently finished The Goldfinch and The Middlesteins) or a business book (like The Challenger Sale)
I power down my iPad, laptop, and iPhone… time for some zzz’s. There’s no typical day in the life when running a company — every day is busy and different, but I’d have it no other way!
