Salma Hayek Pinault: We’ve Got to Fight For Our Confidence

Salma Hayek Pinault understands the pressures that women face in our society, and she isn’t holding her tongue about it. “We’ve got to fight for our confidence every day in modern life because we live in a society that is very harsh to women,” Pinault said in Glam Belleza LatinaGlamour magazine’s latest glossy offering for Latina women. “You have to be smart and successful and a good mother and beautiful and young and skinny forever.”

Coincidently, it was when Pinault was pregnant with her daughter, Valentina that she started to appreciate her body. “I gained so much weigh, I got an opportunity to see myself completely disfigured in many different ways—for a very good reason—I don’t regret it for a second,” said one of the founding committee members of Chime for Change. “That’s when I started appreciating my body. The things that I used to criticize, they were not that bad after all,”

Hayek launched a beauty line with CVS, Nuance by Selma Hayek, in 2011 inspired by her grandmother who used to make her own beauty products. Hayek shares the issue with fellow Latina Jessica Alba, who credits her grandmother with teaching her the use of multi-tasking beauty products. “My grandmother used only one product for everything: a beautiful matte orange-red lipstick that she also dotted on her cheeks and used to highlight her lids,” Alba told Glam Belleza Latina.
