Celebrities and anti-aging treatments have had a long and storied romance. Between their access to the top specialists and the absurd pressure on them to look 25 forever, it’s common for entertainers to endure some pretty out-there remedies. There’s Cate Blanchett’s “penis facial”, Kim Kardashian’s “vampire facial”, and let’s not forget Gwyneth Paltrow’s “bee sting facial.” Now, Katy Perry is revealing some of her most trusted methods for anti-aging and one seems pretty extreme: enemas.
While appearing on an Australian radio show, the 34-year-old pop singer discussed her interest in ancient wellness practices. “I’m kind of into those type of things, like health and healing places and self-betterment places,” she said. Perry also spoke about her participation in Panca Kara, an ancient Indian whole-body cleansing system. “Especially as you get older and you have longer hangovers you realize the cells in my body are dying,” she continued. “I did this thing called Panca Karma, it’s basically Ayurvedic eating and cleansing, you do lots of enemas.”
Ayurvedic eating is a method of consuming whole or minimally processed foods while practicing “mindful eating.” In combination with the enemas, Panca Kara is intended to purify the body and release toxins. “You definitely feel more energy, it basically like gets all the c**p out of you, every pun intended,” Perry said.
The singer also revealed her fiancé, 42-year-old actor Orlando Bloom, is equally interested in natural, “new age” wellness. In addition to ancient practices, Perry keeps her eating pretty clean, but isn’t afraid to indulge every now and again. She said her diet is mostly vegan with a lot of fruit and doses of apple cider vinegar, but that “probably tomorrow I will have an In-N-Out burger.”
Perry’s glow is certainly noticeable, but since its recommended that enemas only be used for medical treatment, it’s probably best to find a good face cream instead.
