The Beauty Trends That Will Be Everywhere Spring 2023 According To NYFW

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) isn't just about the clothes anymore. NYFW is also the key destination for all information about upcoming beauty trends. The most recent fashion week has proved one rumor true: beauty and fashion trends always repeat themselves. The biggest takeaway from S/S 2023 shows is that '90s beauty is back and better than ever! Break out your butterfly clips and bright blue eyeshadow because it is time to live your Libby Lu dreams. (Just try to forget about skinny brows.)

Many of the upcoming trends were seen on our favorite celebrities in the past, including Christina Aguilera and Brittany Spears. Luckily, they are easy looks to re-create yet look far from basic. Celebrities and makeup artists alike seem to be excited about the return of '90s beauty trends. In fact, Los Angeles-based makeup artist Esther Foster tells Ipsy that there were many beauty trends in the '90s that she is "happy to see revamped." Now, the following are the beauty trends that stunned on the catwalks at NYFW and are sure to be everywhere in spring 2023.

Brown lipstick

This '90s supermodel trend is back in full swing. Once seen on our favorite '90s models, such as Cindy Crawford, brown shades of lipstick are back on lips everywhere. "Browns are an earth tone. They tend to suit everyone as they warm up the look of the complexion," makeup artist and best-selling author Lisa Potter-Dixon tells Byrdie. Brown lipstick undoubtedly heated up the catwalks at New York Fashion Week, as we saw it on models during the Kim Shui show.

Shimmer and shine

Glitter makeup galore was seen at the most recent fashion week, specifically on the face, with chunky glitter was worn as an eyeshadow at a variety of runway shows. Even traditionally neutral brands like Tory Burch seemed to be branching out with glitter makeup on the catwalks (via Instagram). After years of minimal to no makeup and few nights on the town, glitter may be just the makeup trend to symbolize getting back out there. Glitter makeup is the perfect combination of glitz and chic for spring 2023.

The no-makeup makeup look

The no-makeup makeup look will leave you looking like you just stepped out of the shower. Glass-like skin along with natural brows and earth-toned lips were all the rage at fashion week. Both celebrities in attendance and models in the shows were rocking the trend. Singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter wore a glowy, light makeup look to the Michael Kor's fashion show (via Instagram). Fresh-faced beauty is something we have all become accustomed to over the past couple of years, making this trend a no-brainer.

Slicked back buns

This next beauty look was the true shining star in our favorite Y2K movies. Slicked-back buns are already on our radar, but S/S 2023 fashion week proved that the '90s "clean girl" aesthetic look is here to stay. These low buns are slicked perfectly to the head with gel. Some leave a few spikey pieces sticking out of the bun itself, while others make sure no hair is left untucked. From Christian Sirano to Jason Wu, these buns were all over New York's catwalks (via YouTube).

Colorful eyeshadow

In contrast to the minimal makeup looks we saw this year, we also saw plenty of candy-colored eyeshadow looks at S/S 2023 fashion week. Luckily, they were much better than the looks we created with our old Claire's palettes. This look truly represents the Y2K trend, as we all had on bright blue eyeshadow back in 2004. In a fun twist, an unusual show from Susan Alexandra was held at NYC's Comedy Cellar, where attendees and models alike wore colorful eyeshadow in droves (via Instagram).
