However, as someone who has struggled with eczema flare-ups, not to mention a busy mom of two young children, this couldn't be further from the truth. On days when she needs some extra pep in her step, she credits a bright lip for giving her an instant confidence boost whenever she needs it. When all else fails, she knows that she can turn to one tried-and-true maneuver to breathe new life into her look.
Why a bright lip can pick you up
As a hands-on mother to two young sons, Mandy Moore is the first to admit that she doesn't have as much time for makeup and beauty as she used to. In fact, she told Oprah Daily that her beauty routine is "significantly pared down," adding, "I recognize that this is not the season for me, and I'm fine with that." All that said, the one thing she doesn't forsake when she needs to look her best and own her self-confidence is something most of us have in our makeup drawers already!
During a conversation with The Zoe Report, the star was asked what her "go-to secret weapon" is when she wants a confidence boost. To that, she replied, "A bright lip. A good pop never fails." Moore explained that a saturated color makes her "feel good" and "polished." When she goes bright rather than muted, she feels like "the most empowered version" of herself. Indeed, she's in good company with that sentiment, as A-list stars like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Kylie Jenner are all card-carrying members of the metaphorical Bold Lip Fan Club. Makeup artist Jen Evans explains the concept behind the hack to Woman and Home: "A bright lip colour expresses an empowered persona of strength. You put it on and you immediately feel more confident than you did without it."
How to channel Mandy Moore's lip look
Mandy Moore's style has evolved since she burst on the pop music scene at only age 15. These days, she sports a look that's less bubblegum and more mature, but a bold lip has remained consistent. In particular, she showcased her beloved colorful lip on one of the biggest stages in her industry: the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards. For the event, she donned a red Carolina Herrera frock paired with heels in the same hue. Her makeup artist Kindra Mann told Entertainment Tonight that she complemented the gown with some strategic makeup choices. "We went with a clean classic makeup look that focused on glowing fresh skin, flirty lashes and a pop of color on the lip," Mann explained.
The pop of color that Mann selected perfectly complemented the dress without overwhelming it. The signature shade was Beauty Counter's Color Intense Lipstick in the shade Girls' Night, however, that particular hue appears to be discontinued. The brand does currently produce the similarly vibed Statement Maker Satin Lipstick, which would be almost identical to Moore's look in the Vibrant: Blue Red shade.
