What Lady Danbury From Bridgerton Looks Like In Real Life (& Why She's On Everyone's Lips)

In the Regency world of "Bridgerton," Lady Agatha Danbury is the quick-witted widow that runs with the highest circles of the ton. She has a place in our hearts for her clever comebacks and soft heart, so much so it's easy to forget that she's a fictional character brought to life by the talented Adjoa Andoh. While there are other characters in the series who tend to get more screen time — after all, Lady Danbury is neither a Bridgerton nor a Featherington — her name was thrust into the spotlight following the 2025 Met Gala, as a number of celebrities seemed to pay homage to her aesthetic. Eagle-eyed fans drew comparisons between Lady Danbury and stars such as Zendaya and Teyana Taylor since staples of the character's look emerged on the navy carpet. "I'm telling you Met Gala 2025 is just Lady Danbury's 2025 soirée," one X user wrote in a post during the event.

Along with the typical pieces of a well-to-do woman's Regency 'fit, Lady Danbury is particularly known for her revolutionary wardrobe of jewel tones. While most women on the show stick to the historically accurate bonnet, Lady Danbury prefers a wider-brimmed sunhat that speaks to her power on the social scene (when she's not wearing a tiara). Though she does wear feminine gowns that fit in with the royally fun Regencycore trend, she relies more on textured pelisses and spencer jackets, always in her signature bold color palettes. 

Teyana Taylor clearly channeled this with her Marc Jacobs red-and-pinstriped ensemble, complete with a Lady Danbury-like hat and walking stick. Zendaya, meanwhile, wore an all-white Louis Vuitton suit with a wide-brimmed hat that looked oh-so Lady Danbury-coded. Tracee Ellis Ross' outfit also looked like Lady Danbury with her burgundy hat and cropped blazer, while Lupita Nyong'o boasted a similar silhouette from Chanel. Adjoa Andoh sat out the 2025 Met Gala, but we can't guarantee that she would have followed suit and evoked her on-screen character since her real-life look is quite different.

Like Lady Danbury, Adjoa Andoh was born in England, though she was brought up in the idyllic countryside rather than bustling London. Referring to herself as "a hippy from the Cotswolds" in a feature for The Countryside Charity, Andoh still holds a special place for nature in her life, even though now she's globally famous. Her role as Lady Agatha Danbury shot her to international stardom, but she has worked on several admirable projects over the years, including "Dr. Who," and has performed with the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. 

One of the many ways she is different from her on-screen character is her personal style. Aside from the fact that Andoh and Danbury live two centuries apart, Andoh frequently opts for outfits that feature subtle and muted tones rather than the rich jewel colors of Lady Danbury's wardrobe. She certainly pulls off a sophisticated and elegant look when she wants to, rocking a stunning sage-green gown to the 2025 SAG Awards, but her go-to style leans into androgynous dressing and conservative necklines, prioritizing shades like navy and brown. "I love a sort of androgyny ... For me I feel quite comfortable in gender neutral clothes," she said on the "Amanda Wakeley: Style DNA" podcast.

Beauty-wise, Andoh wears a similar radiant makeup look to red carpets as Lady Danbury wears to balls in the ton. Of course, perhaps the biggest difference is her hair; while Lady Danbury has long hair often coiled up into intricate 'dos beneath her hats and tiaras, Andoh keeps things simple with a daring buzzcut. "I'm interested in people being who they are as a person, not conforming to any particular stereotypes we have about what a gendered person should be," she added on the podcast. Of course, Andoh is just one of the "Bridgerton" stars who looks totally different in real life!
