Amy Adams' Natural Hair Color Makes Her Almost Unrecognizable
Amy Adams is definitely one of those red-haired celebs that make you want to try flaming-hot locks. While there is a red hair color for every skin tone, the "Julie & Julia" star has repeatedly demonstrated that there isn't necessarily just one. She's pulled off everything from strawberry blond to rich, warm copper. But did you know that the "Enchanted" actor isn't actually a natural red-head? That's right. Add her to the list of famous red-headed celebs that actually aren't, including Emma Stone, Julia Roberts, and Kate Winslet.
Like her fellow award-winning actors Stone, Roberts, and Winslet, Adams is naturally blond. While she looks beautiful with golden tresses, she is almost unrecognizable with her natural strands. Adams credits the hair color transformation from blond to ginger with changing her life. And like many of her fans, we think of her adopted hair color as part of her brand: Amy Adams and red hair go hand-in-hand.
Her hair color affected the roles Amy Adams was offered
There are definitely advantages of having red hair. So which one of those prompted Amy Adams to color her hair from its natural blond color to her signature red? As it turns out, work. She explained during a 2012 interview with Backstage that she was playing a nurse on "Dr. Vegas" in 2004 when she was told she needed to alter her hair color. "It really changed things up," she recalled in the interview. "People began to see me in a different way, for different roles. I don't know if I can give credit to just the hair color, but maybe it did help people see me past blond."
Later in 2016 while speaking at the New York Times TimesTalk (via People) she explained that she pursued characters as a redhead that varied from those she would have gone for when she was blond: "Based on roles that I was getting, called in for, people were responding to certain types of characters with me as a blond and the minute I went red, it was quirky and fun instead of flirtatious and dumb." The rest is history: From her award-winning turn in "Junebug" in 2005, Adams cemented herself as one of Hollywood's leading actors, redhead or otherwise.
