The Inappropriate Wedding Guest Dress That Will Always Haunt Candace Cameron Bure

When it comes to weddings, there's a certain, unspoken dress code, and based on what Candace Cameron Bure wore to a wedding in November 2021, we suggest she take a look at our ultimate guide to what not to wear to a wedding. Everyone knows you are not to wear white unless you're the bride, you shouldn't go too casual if it's a formal celebration, and you simply do not upstage the happy couple. Some other wedding dress-code rules aren't as universal, and Bure found that out the hard way.

She posted a family photo to Instagram, where you can see that she and her daughter Natasha Bure are matching in remarkably similar strapless red dresses. Wearing bright red is also frowned upon at weddings, as it has the possibility to stand out more than the bride would. In some cultures, the bride wears red, and in that case it's an absolute no-no. Regardless of whether the actor had gotten permission from the bride to wear red, the vibrant tone landed her in trouble online more than a berry or brick shade would have. Bure surely will not be making the mistake again, as her followers were quick to educate her on the taboo color palette. One critic explained in the comments, "Dresses are beautiful but I don't think I would wear red to a wedding. You are suppose[d] to let the bride stand out. It looks as though you are drawing attention to yourself."

To add insult to injury, she seemed to set a bad example for her daughter. Not only that, but it appeared as though her husband and son were not wearing socks with their dress shoes. The response was a wedding-guest etiquette refresher for the whole family, with another commenter joking, "Them dudes feet must be rank."

This was not Candace Cameron Bure's first wedding-guest faux pas

Candace Cameron Bure has been a household staple across TV screens since the 1980s when she played DJ Tanner on the hit sitcom "Full House," and since then, Candace Cameron Bure's style has undergone quite the transformation. That being said, Candace Cameron Bure has certainly had her share of inappropriate outfits, including one at another wedding.

In January 2024, her oldest son Lev Bure got married. Now, we haven't even approached discussing the dress code for the mother of the groom, but some were not pleased with what she chose to wear to walk her son down the aisle. The actor decided on a metallic gold textured gown, because looking like a trophy certainly won't take attention away from the bride. While some fans praised her look and even asked where they could buy the dress, one reprimanded her in the comments of her Instagram post from the ceremony, writing, "The gold dress is simply NOT appropriate attire for MOB." Another added, "So it was about you."

When it comes to weddings at least, the common theme that lets Bure down is her taste for show-stopping styles that might look great on their own but risk stealing the spotlight from the happy couple.

Candace Cameron Bure has had controversial fashion moments outside of weddings, too

The Hallmark star may have shown us incredible fashion over the years, but quite a few of her looks have caused gasps from onlookers. In 2017, the actor posted a photo of herself wearing a tee that had "Not Today Satan" written on it on Instagram, and the comment section was outraged. The shirt is a design by "RuPaul's Drag Race" winner Bianca Del Rio, who re-posted the image of Bure with the caption, "If only this homophobic Republican knew...." Del Rio made the saying popular in jest, but the assumption is that Bure, who actively practices Christianity, was wearing the shirt earnestly. "Why do you have to be nasty to me? You don't know me or my heart. I'm not homophobic and [it's] always sad when people think otherwise. Loving Jesus doesn't mean I hate gay people or anyone," the actor replied to Del Rio by saying. The two have made up since, but the Instagram moment remains a controversial fashion choice for Bure.

Similarly, in 2016, the star posted pictures of her in a Tinker Bell Halloween costume. The look sparked outrage from her Christian following, who were in disbelief that Bure celebrated the holiday. However, many also defended the star's choice to live her life, with one Instagram user writing, "Some of you people are so rude. Calling her sexual and a hypocrite and saying Jesus hates you. Why don't you get a life and start judging yourself instead of others?"

Of course, Bure isn't the only star who has a history of inappropriate looks. Many other celebs have worn inappropriate outfits to other people's weddings, too!
