The Inappropriate Pippa Middleton Outfit That Is Hard To Forget

Pippa Middleton, sister of Catherine, Princess of Wales, lives a life farther from the spotlight than her famous sibling, but that doesn't mean she's immune to a viral moment. The first came when she was the maid of honor at the royal wedding of her sister and William, Prince of Wales, in April 2011, when some confused her for the bride.

Pippa wore a one-of-a-kind Alexander McQueen gown designed by Sarah Burton, and it was almost perfect. She looked elegant and sophisticated in the form-fitting satin gown with a cowl neckline, her curled tresses tied back neatly into a half-up look decorated with flowers. All around, she looked stunning, so much so that a behind-the-back shot of her carrying Kate's train was widely praised by the press and public alike — except for the fact that the dress was white.

There are lots of rules for wedding etiquette; don't propose at someone else's event, don't bring a plus one if they weren't accounted for, and don't get too drunk. Even though the Princess of Wales reportedly wanted to match Pippa's dress to hers, the look has ruffled feathers among more traditional onlookers. 

The wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales in 2011 may have been one of Pippa Middleton's first viral wardrobe moments, and one that gained worldwide attention for seemingly being an etiquette blunder, but it certainly wasn't her last. Though Meghan Markle turned heads with her no-makeup makeup look on her wedding day in May 2018, Pippa still managed to steal the show, and not for good reason.

She opted for a mint-and-salmon floral dress designed by The Fold. She finished off the look with a matching fascinator and clutch, with nude heels. It was certainly modest and appropriate for the event; however, once it reached the online trolls, they gave it a new identity. "Pippa Middleton sponsored by Arizona," one user wrote on X, posting a photo of Pippa next to a bottle of the name-brand iced tea. Though she didn't intend for her outfit to take the spotlight, the public's focus on her dress inherently takes the emphasis off the bride. She should take a note from our book and look at our summer wedding guest outfit ideas; maybe opting for something other than a dress will help her avoid standing out next time.
