The Makeup Mistake That Is Making Kayleigh McEnany Look So Much Older

Like many of her fellow right-wing folk, Kayleigh McEnany has hopped on the Republican makeup trend, and it's not doing her any favors. The former White House press secretary may only be in her late 30s, but she's guilty of a particular eye makeup mistake that's making her look years older. While eyeliner is worn to give your peepers some definition, McEnany frequently goes overboard with the too-dark color. With her fair skin and blond hair, the black shade is way too harsh for her features, especially as she likes a strong, defined line. Looking at her through a makeup artist's lens with more than 15 years of experience, I can firmly say that if the first thing you notice about a person is their heavily made-up face, they need to lighten up on the products.

McEnany using black eyeliner is not the only mistake that's aging her. She's also encircling her entire eyes with it, making them look smaller. Additionally, the Fox News host is filling in her waterline, which only diminishes the size even more. Because McEnany's eyes are naturally big, she can get away with it, but a softer approach would make her look younger. Combined with the overload of black mascara and frosted eyeshadow, there's just too much product weighing down her features. If she wants a bold look, a dark brown or even a gray liner would have a much softer effect while bringing focus to her eyes instead of the makeup.

Kayleigh McEnany looks so much younger without the heavy eyeliner

Kayleigh McEnany didn't always layer on tons of makeup. During her time as the White House Press Secretary in 2020 and 2021, she took a more light-handed approach. While she did favor a daytime smokey eye with long lashes and a neutral-colored shadow, McEnany used a more subtle gray liner as opposed to her current black color. And, she mainly kept the pigment focused on her top lids only, with just a light line on her bottom lids. With less eye makeup, you could clearly see her pretty features, such as her pale blue-green eyes and flawless skin.

If McEnany wanted to bring out her eye color, she should lean more towards peach, gold, and bronze shadows, as they're complementary to blue. Those shades would give eyes some definition without having to resort to dark liner. As people age, lighter makeup colors are more favorable, as they make faces look more youthful. With just a few changes to her makeup repertoire, McEnany could shave off at least a decade from her appearance, and given that she's a media personality, that's a major plus.
