Savannah Guthrie's Divorce Affected Her More Than We Realized

Divorce is more common than ever, yet there's still a sense of taboo when female celebrities face it. Savannah Guthrie has been the face of the "Today" show since 2012, but it wasn't until July 2025 that she opened up about her love life behind the scenes. Guthrie was married to Mark Orchard from 2005 until she filed for divorce in 2009. She hadn't spoken publicly about the dissolution until she sat down with Monica Lewinsky for an episode of her podcast, "Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky."

During the conversation, Lewinsky mentioned Guthrie's 2024 book, "Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere," and the notice she gave readers about how the text wasn't necessarily a deep dive into her personal life. "An example was, like a bajilion other people, you were married and divorced before," Lewinsky said.

"It was horrible and sad, and it broke my heart, and it took me years to recover," Guthrie revealed during the July 2025 episode. "And I'm not blaming anyone, but I don't really want to get into it." We were instantly struck with sympathy — as we all know, there isn't one set way to work through the grieving process of a divorce. For Guthrie, setting that boundary with her fans was the only way to protect her peace.

Savannah Guthrie found love again with Michael Feldman

Though Savannah Guthrie had a rough go with her first husband, Mark Orchard, she didn't lose faith before finding her Prince Charming. We could have predicted that, though; after all, she is one of the "Today" show ladies who is drop-dead gorgeous even without makeup. In October 2008, Guthrie attended a mutual friend's birthday party, which was where she met former political consultant Michael Feldman. The next year, after her divorce was finalized, the two began dating. A few years later, Feldman popped the question in May 2013, but their story almost ended before the union.

During a February 2025 episode of "The Kelly Clarkson Show," Guthrie revealed that she broke things off with Feldman the day of their engagement. "We had at that point been dating for five-and-a-half years," Guthrie told the "Stronger" singer. "My mother was like, 'You two, you need to either do it or don't. Just do something." So, during a beach trip, Guthrie decided to break the solemn news. That's certainly one way to let your partner know you're ready to be engaged (or not). Little to Guthrie's knowledge, Feldman already had the ring in his pocket. Everything worked out, though, and the couple tied the knot in March 2014, later welcoming their daughter, Vale, that August and their son, Charlie, in December 2016. The rest, as they say, is history.
