The Reason Jennifer Aniston Has Never Attended The Met Gala Is So Relatable

What do Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Angela Bassett and Meryl Streep all have in common? Lots, probably. But in this instance, it's the fact that none of these acting legends has ever attended the famed Met Gala. The annual celebration held on the first Monday in May brings together heavy-hitters in the worlds of fashion, entertainment, music, and sports. Regular fixtures include Rihanna, Zendaya, the Kardashian-Jenners, Blake Lively, and Jennifer Lopez, who has served up stunning Met Gala looks over the years. While the gala provides some of the top fashion moments of the year, there are also some major fails, like the worst-dressed celebs at the 2025 Met Gala

The point is, it's one of the most exciting style events of the year. So, why would A-listers like Aniston, Jolie, and Bassett, who are no strangers to red carpets, miss the Vogue-sponsored event? It's not from a lack of an invitation, at least in Aniston's case. No, the "Friends" star revealed to Glamour in its September 2025 issue the reason she's never attended the Met Gala, and it's so relatable: She doesn't feel like herself in all of the extravagance.

Jennifer Aniston is most comfortable in casual outfits

For Jennifer Aniston, not attending the Met Gala is about practicality. For one, it comes down to the effort necessary to get glammed up for such a massive event, as well as her comfort level. "It's the getting ready, the putting on the dress. I'm a 'jeans and flip-flops and tank top' kind of girl," Aniston told Glamour. And it's true: Aniston is a style superstar when it comes to rocking casual basics. She particularly knows how to elevate a basic white tank style, and her not wanting to get glammed up to the nines is oh-so relatable, even if we're partial to becoming glamazons from time to time.

You might not expect this from the star of "The Morning Show," but Aniston added that she gets nervous at events as big as the Met Gala, especially when it comes to talking with media outlets on the red carpet. "I even get a little anxious about public speaking, especially over the years of having your words twisted and taken out of context. So I find myself almost hall-monitoring myself in a weird way," she explained. In this way, she's part of a broader wave of celebrities who have opened up about anxiety — for instance, Oprah Winfrey and Billie Eilish — and we commend her for that.
