Matt Damon's Daughters Have Transformed Before Our Eyes
You wouldn't be able to tell based on his acting credits, but Matt Damon is quite the doting girl dad. When he and his wife Luciana Barroso met back in 2003, she already had one daughter, from a previous relationship. Matt admitted that getting into a relationship with a parent had its trials and tribulations, but it was well worth it. "I jumped into the deep end with Lucy. I mean, Alexia was already four. I was an extra dad ... The only way I can describe it — it sounds stupid, but — at the end of 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas,' you know how his heart grows, like, five times its size? Everything is full; it's just full all the time," Matt remarked during an interview with Parade from December 2011.
Flash forward to December 2005, when Damon and Barroso tied the knot and wasted no time getting to work on baby girl number two. The couple welcomed Isabella Damon in June 2006, then Gia Damon in August 2008, and finally, Stella Damon arrived in October 2010, and their family was complete. When asked how he feels about being surrounded by all women at home and if he had advice for other girl dads during a SiriusXM interview with Andy Cohen (via Entertainment Tonight), he expressed, "I wouldn't deign to give anybody advice other than I just try to listen and be helpful. I mean, ultimately, it's about building self-esteem, because you know, 99% of the decisions they make, you're not gonna be there, right?" Not only are Matt's four daughters celebrity kids who have the potential to be fashion icons, but they've grown up before our eyes. Let's take a look back on their stunning transformations.
Matt Damon's stepdaughter Alexia Barroso has followed in his footsteps
Though Matt Damon isn't biologically related to his oldest daughter Alexia Barroso, she's taken a liking to his career path. When Damon met Luciana Barroso, he had just finished filming for the day in Miami and went to the bar where she was working. Luciana told Vogue Australia in May 2018 that he had invited her out when she got off work, but her daughter was more important. "But I was like: 'I can't, I have a four-year-old daughter, I'm not going anywhere'... and that was one of the things he loved, that I had a daughter. He said: 'I love that you're a mum and that's your priority.' Some guys might have been different; they might think it's complicated, but for him it wasn't."
As Alexia grew up, her bond with her stepdad only grew, along with her fascination with the entertainment industry. In 2011, she appeared in a small role in his film "We Bought a Zoo." Her love of film and television has followed her well into her adult life, as she will attend premieres with her parents from time to time, and works as a freelance photographer, videographer, and production assistant, according to her LinkedIn.
More recently, Alexia stepped out with her mom and stepdad in September 2024 for the opening of the LouisaViaRoma flagship store in New York City, and the fashionable trio coordinated in all black. Alexia looked chic and casual in a short-sleeved blouse and matching jeans. It wasn't too far off from her look at "The Instigators" premiere in July 2024, where she stepped out in a sophisticated, yet simple, black, high-neck slip dress. She highlighted the color psychology of black clothing and why we love wearing it so much.
Isabella Damon changed Matt Damon's life
When Luciana Barroso and Matt Damon welcomed their daughter Isabella Damon in June 2006, everything about their lifestyle changed. During an interview with The Times in August 2007, the "Good Will Hunting" star revealed that he and Barroso were bringing their 14-month-old daughter on set while he was filming "The Bourne Ultimatum." Eventually, the exhaustion affected his performance. "Halfway through the movie, Paul Greengrass [the director] looked at me and said, 'You look terrible.' I told him, 'I'm sorry. I'm awake all night with the baby,' to which he said, 'No, it's really good. She came along just at the right time — she's really helping your performance.'" Note to all struggling actors: Have a baby! Like Alexia, Isabella also grew up attending movie premieres with her family and has acquired her own style for when she graces the red carpet. At the "Air" premiere in March 2023, she opted for a light dress with a floral design and black lace trimming, and for "The Instigators" premiere in July 2024, she decided on a strapless black midi gown with black shoes.
Matt wasn't smiling when he realized his oldest daughter would soon be leaving for college, though. During an interview with E! News in September 2024, the "Interstellar" star spoke about how they'd already had one daughter move out of the house, but that doesn't make the others any easier: "It's a surreal kind of time and the way it operates in your life, the older you get, because it just feels like I was holding her yesterday." Isabella started school at the New York University Gallatin School for Individualized Study in the fall of 2024.
Gia Damon has traveled the world with her family
Gia Damon arrived in August 2008, and she instantly became her dad's right-hand woman on sets all over the globe. In 2009, Matt Damon's younger daughters traveled with him to Africa during the filming of "Invictus," but she was more interested in one of his co-stars: Nelson Mandela. "Lucy and I didn't even talk to him; we just let him hang out with the kids. He bounced them on his knee," Matt remarked, according to People. "Isabella and Gia couldn't take their eyes off him. They just were looking at each other, completely locked on each other the entire time." In 2010, when Matt Damon was filming "True Grit" in New Mexico, his younger daughters got the chance to meet some more of his co-stars. "They were interested in seeing the horses," Matt expressed to People in December 2010. "So, we got some pictures of them with the horses."
Growing up well-versed in the film world, Gia also became quite familiar with red-carpet fashion. For the premiere of "Air" in April 2023, she wore a black maxi dress with a floral pattern and accessories, giving us all a lesson in how to layer necklaces like a pro. In July 2024, at "The Instigators" premiere, Gia opted for a bit more color and decided on a red velvet bodycon dress with a high slit and black shoes.
Stella Damon completed the family
Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso welcomed Stella Damon in October 2010, and her arrival made for a whole different household. "It's been pretty crazy. The baby came a couple of weeks early. It's our fourth, so we've done it before — but it's a whole new dynamic," Matt remarked to Hello! Canada (via People) about being outnumbered by both women and children. As his youngest transitioned into teenage-hood, it didn't get much easier for the "Ocean's Eleven" star. "I might have to find a rental apartment, but I'm excited," he told People in July 2021.
Like the rest of her sisters, Stella has joined the Damon family several times on the red carpet. You may have noticed a pattern in the way the sisters choose to dress: muted colors, understated silhouettes, and simple glam. They all give quiet luxury, which is prone to some pretty severe fashion mistakes, but the Damons make it work. Stella is no different, as she decided on a knitted black maxi dress and matching sandals for the Paris premiere of "Oppenheimer" in July 2023. Then, for "The Instigators" premiere in July 2024, she wore a forest-green slip dress with black kitten heels.
