The Biggest Celebrity Hair Fails Of 2025 So Far

For us non-celebs, the occasional bad haircut is understandable. We're working with limited funds, no glam squad, and a small range of options, so it's pretty easy to make a mistake or two. Celebrities, on the other hand, are in a totally different world. Beyond the money and private beauty specialists, many accomplished hairstylists would queue for a chance to give a celeb a haircut. This is why celebrity hair fails are just so hard to understand.

What exactly went awry? Was this a "new hair, new me" gone wrong? Did they get scissor-happy? Or is someone on their team secretly out to get them? All these questions and more popped up into our minds as we compiled our list of the biggest celebrity hair fails of 2025. Stars like Joey King looked unrecognizable with their hair transformations in the best way, but others had us wishing that we could Control + Z their decisions. And sure, we support everyone's right to tweak their hair as they deem fit, but if a hairstyle is simply bad, no amount of star power can undo it.

Miley Cyrus tried to merge three haircuts in one

If there's one thing to know and love about Miley Cyrus, it's that she absolutely hates to be boxed in — and we respect that. What we don't love is this haircut, which was a huge disservice to the "Flowers" singer's natural beauty. Cyrus wore this hair to January's Golden Globes and beyond, but no one can get away with mashing three haircuts in one. The bangs have lowlights, one side has a blunt bob, and the other a shaggy one, and the back is almost waist-length. Worse still, this was her real hair, so we can only imagine how much time it'll take to fix.

Brie Larson's daring cut wasn't a good decision

We're typically huge fans of short haircuts, as our fangirling over Keke Palmer's short hair shows. But getting a pixie to look good takes a bit of styling and color-shopping — two things that Brie Larson didn't do with her reset cut. The "Captain Marvel" star literally went from a mid-length blond that suited her so well to an over-treated peroxide pixie cut. Yes, the cut was for her role in "Elektra," but it just didn't work. On the bright side, nothing can ever make her look truly awful because she's a natural beauty.

Kristen Stewart tried and failed to make hair damage trendy

We've been here since the beginning of Kristen Stewart's hair transformation. We didn't judge the dye jobs or the rockstar 'dos, and we even grew to love her shaggy hair. But this hair change is an unjustifiable fail. It's clear that the years of dyes have caught up to the actor and damaged her hair, but surely, there were alternatives to this look. It's stringy and uneven, and does nothing for her features. She'll always be stunning, but this hair was a no-no.

JoJo Siwa's haircut was simply too busy

We love when stars are loud and proud, but expressing yourself absolutely doesn't have to come at the expense of style. Case in point? Billie Eilish and the colorful roots trend she kickstarted a few years ago. On the other hand, JoJo Siwa's rainbow hair at the GLAAD Media Awards in March felt discordant because it came during her edgy rebrand phase. What's more, the multicolor look was lost on the mohawk. Mohawks are already busy and loud, so combined with the color, it was just overwhelming to look at. Ultimately, there are plenty of subtle and bold ways you can bring Pride into your looks while maintaining a stylistic cohesion.

Emily Ratajkowski was a victim of an overzealous stylist

Of all the names on this list, Emily Ratajkowski has the most of our sympathy. Her bad haircut is proof that a good stylist is worth their weight in gold. In March, the model shared what she called the "worst haircut of my life" to TikTok and had fans outraged on her behalf. Between the bangs on the back of her hair and the horrible fringe, it just wasn't a good look. "The very nice man who did this to me — I think he was like going British shag," she explained. Not only is it super impressive that she didn't publicly call him out, but she also managed to be respectful about the absolute fail of a haircut. Luckily, she got it fixed soon after.

Lizzo's blond hair was too heavy on the top

Earlier in the year, Lizzo had a blond Beyoncé-like haircut that was absolutely stunning. We were awe-struck and a bit too quick to conclude that blond was her color — and so were the "Truth Hurts" performer's Instagram fans. A few months later, she showed off another shade of blond in an August Instagram video, and it was everything the previous one was not. It was too bright, bordering on bleached, and it was quite heavy on the top. We love a good wig install, and Lizzo is typically on her A-game. However, this was a hair fail, and we'd like to never see it again.
