Cameron Diaz's Inappropriate Outfit At The 2002 Cannes Film Festival Had Everyone Staring

In the late '90s and early 2000s, there were few actors who had as much star power, and box office hits, as Cameron Diaz. And 2002 was no exception for the then-29-year-old blond beauty, who had three films hit theaters that year: "The Sweetest Thing," "Slackers," and "Gangs of New York." For "Gangs," which co-starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day Lewis, she hit the Cannes Film Festival in an inappropriate outfit that had everyone staring.

The one-shoulder gown that was designed by Versace would have definitely broken the new 2025 Cannes Film Festival dress code if Diaz had worn it this year. It still drew all kinds of looks in 2002, as the dress was sheer. Though it did appear to have a layer shielding her chest from full disclosure, the bottom was fully see-through, with a pair of black briefs visible through the gown. Appropriate for the beach? Perhaps. But for one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world? Not so much.

This wasn't Cameron Diaz's only inappropriate outfit from the era

Cameron Diaz may have been America's hilarious blond sweetheart after hits like "Something About Mary" and "My Best Friend's Wedding," but we can't help but feel like she wanted to make sure her sex appeal was top of mind when she hit the Academy Awards in both 1998 and 2000.

On the arm of then-beau Matt Dillon, she attended the 1998 awards in sheer cream, landing her on our list of the worst Oscars looks of all time. The outfit screamed damsel in distress, as in, call the fashion police, with its top that was clasped together to reveal her torso beneath. Then there was Cameron Diaz's inappropriate outfit from the 2000 Oscars. This look seemed to foreshadow the Cannes outfit; it was also from Versace and was sheer, revealing black briefs beneath and giving onlookers plenty to peer at.
