Carrie Underwood's Inappropriate Outfit On Good Morning America Almost Exposed Her
To promote the release of her album "Denim and Rhinestones," Carrie Underwood visited "Good Morning America" in August 2024 wearing an outfit that paid tribute to the album title. She took to the stage in Central Park to perform her hit "Last Name" in an outfit that landed on the list of Underwood's most inappropriate outfits yet. The look in question featured a rhinestone jacket, white top, denim short-shorts with colorful rhinestone belt, and denim boots with silver-capped toes. And people had thoughts.
There are rules of how to wear short shorts at any age and look amazing, and Underwood, then 41, didn't adhere to them. The "bedazzled denim diaper," as one Instagrammer called the shorts on GMA's post, were too short, revealing the "American Idol" judge's butt cheek when she kicked her leg into the air. As another commenter wrote, the camera angle didn't help: "The cameraman made the problem worse. They should have filmed her while on the stage with her. GMA knows better than this. I'm surprised they let this go on the air." A number of critics commented that they're tired of Underwood showing off her toned gams: "She could wear a pair of pants occasionally, we all know she has great legs."
Carrie Underwood has had other GMA fashion fails
Not only has she spurned fashion police with her inappropriate outfits, Carrie Underwood has been caught wearing outdated outfits as well, including those for some of her "Good Morning America" appearances. For example, the 'fit she wore on GMA in August 2006, the year her debut album "Some Hearts" was Billboard's best-selling album and top country album of the year. For the early-aughts performance, she paired knee-length, cuffed Bermuda shorts with an off-the-shoulder peasant blouse, and a cinched, corset-style vest over the top. It looked like she was dressing up as an olden days bar maid wanting to channel a pirate. At least the length of these jorts was more family-TV appropriate.
A more recent offending look was the "Jesus, Take the Wheel" singer's outfit for her March 2025 appearance on the morning show. This time she looked like she was channeling the '70s with her bell bottom pants and platform shoes, but also trying to appear businesslike in a suit. Add to the mix a trellis pattern on the suit and you have a whole lotta confusion happening.
Carrie Underwood's had some good GMA outfits, too
More often than not, Carrie Underwood's "Good Morning America" outfits missed the mark. But she has had a few positive fashion moments on the show. In October 2007, she appeared on the morning program to promote her sophomore album, "Carnival Ride," which went double-platinum within the first two months, making her one of the most successful female country artists of all time. For the GMA appearance, she wore a long coat over black leggings, which she secured with an oversized obi-style leather belt with metallic accents, and black knee-high boots. The monochromatic look was polished but still rock and roll-meets country.
Another look that felt more elevated than some of her previous fails was her outfit in November 2018. As she exited GMA, the Country Music Awards co-host appeared in a black S-TEAM LA dress with a geometric pattern. At the time, Underwood was pregnant with her second son, Jacob, who was born two months later. He's her second son with husband Mike Fisher, a former hockey player. This look proved that Underwood often puts her best heeled foot forward when she's in outfits that aren't overly complicated, or short, for that matter.
