Melania Trump's Most Boring Red Carpet Looks Of All Time

First Lady Melania Trump has been interested in fashion since her early days as a model. Before her husband Donald Trump became President, Melania would attend red carpet events in outfits with bold colors and varied styles. She often attempted to channel the glamour of Old Hollywood by wearing elegant gowns with slimming silhouettes. This was especially pertinent in all of Melania's Met Gala looks. Other times, she chose to show off some skin with short skirts that highlighted her long legs. She wouldn't stray from sexy ensembles that were low-cut and hugged her shape. But among those garments, Melania has suffered her fair amount of fashion faux pas.

There have been a number of unfortunate choices when it comes to Melania's wardrobe. She's been caught wearing outdated outfits and even clothes that have been considered inappropriate or downright distasteful. In some instances, it appeared as if Melania did not pay any mind to her wardrobe, because when she posed for cameras, the outfits looked completely drab. She insists on frequently wearing white, making her wardrobe seem more and more like an afterthought with each dull color selection. And she struggles with choosing clothes that feel appropriate for the tone of event she is attending, even after so many years of appearing at high-profile events. Melania's most repeat offenses include gowns that make no spark, leading us to wonder what the First Lady was thinking when she wore these mundane garments.

1999: Melania Trump wears stark white to watch Star Wars

Melania Trump's earliest red carpet misstep was at the premiere of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace." One of the most famous franchises in movie history should inspire a big fanfare, or at the very least an opportunity for campy '90s fashion. But not for Donald Trump's then-girlfriend. Her white dress included a odd back cutout and looked as though Melania grabbed a nearby bedsheet to wrap around herself. Perhaps she was channeling a Stormtrooper with her color choice? But with minimal lines tailored to her shape, this outfit was a bore.

2005: Melania Trump wears a frumpy coat to The Apprentice finale after-party

When "The Apprentice" concluded its fourth season, host Donald Trump celebrated at an after-party with his wife, Melania Trump. Too bad her outfit looked as bored as she did. The black gown she wore was so tired and bulky, it felt like basic fabric sewn together rather than a dress. On top, Melania wore a bizarre white coat with an ugly chenille texture that looked wrinkled. The cut was uninspired and the fluffy neck panels felt misshapen. Melania's hair gave the impression she'd just rolled out of bed, confirming this entire outfit was a mistake.

2005: NBC Upfronts have Melania dressed as a doily

Each year, television networks preview their newest shows at upfronts to spark interest and excitement, so we can't help but question why Melania Trump wore such an old-fashioned style of dress when promoting "The Apprentice" in 2005. Her dull dress didn't represent the show's tough office atmosphere or the high energy of television. Instead, it looks like an old tablecloth that would be found in grandma's kitchen. The soft white was washed out from camera flashes, so the texture of the fabric went unnoticed and unappreciated.

2005: Melania's Y2K tee was the epitome of mom style

While attending the Us Weekly Young Hollywood Party in 2005, Melania Trump tried to channel youth by staying true to the fashion trends of the time. But her casual ensemble feels beyond outdated now. Her peach-colored T-shirt had a shiny rhinestone feature down the bodice and along the lining. It doesn't look elegant — in fact, it just feels cheap. Not to mention, the low-cut neckline is unsuitable for a gathering of young stars. Her white pants appear to be denim, which is far more casual than the top, thus making the outfit look unbalanced.

2008: Style was scarce at the Sex and the City movie premiere

The lovable characters on "Sex and the City" wore a number of iconic looks throughout the show's run, and when the ladies moved to the big screen, it was the perfect opportunity to be experimental with feminine fashions. Melania Trump missed the memo by showing up in what was basically a poofy smock. She wore a tent dress that looked more like a giant skirt with straps, or a nightgown gone wrong. The garment (paired with a random, beachy black necklace) faded into the background with its nothingness.

2011: Melania wears a colorless, confusing dress to the Tower Heist movie premiere

What's the point of attending a movie premiere if you're going to wear a lackluster outfit? Melania Trump didn't dress to impress when she walked the red carpet at the premiere of the 2011 film "Tower Heist." She wore a nude minidress that could easily be mistaken for a Forever 21 reject. The dress would be too subtle even for a junior prom, looking more like compression underwear than a dress — but not in a sexy or playful way. The outfit was a yawn in the form of clothing.

2011: Melania's Correspondents Dinner dress is a let down

The White House Correspondents Dinner used to be one of the biggest formal gatherings of the year. This annual event has seen some fashion risks, including when Nancy Mace's take on the 2020s menswear trend had us doing a double take. But Melania Trump chose to not put much effort into her outfit in 2011. She wore a floor-length white gown with a thin black leather belt around the bodice and neckline. This felt like a thoughtless choice, as it was void of originality, lacking shape and elegance.
