Carrie Underwood's Killer Legs Couldn't Redeem These Bad Outfits

As far as country singers go, a show-stopping goddess gown is equally as important when performing as top-notch vocals. The most successful artists of country music have proven that they are also fashionistas, often wearing extravagant ensembles with glee. Singer Carrie Underwood has been on so many red carpets that she has become a must-see at music events and award shows. Her signature move is showing off her long legs in miniskirts and usually she can wear dresses with high slits without baring it all. However, some of her outfit choices have left a lot to be desired.

What Underwood lacks in fashion knowledge she makes up for in shock value by showing off her long and fit bombshell legs. When she first became a star by winning "American Idol" in 2005, Underwood had a casual wardrobe that harked back to her Southern roots in Oklahoma. She auditioned for the show in jeans and a T-shirt but developed a more traditional fun and feminine style after winning the competition. Two decades later, Underwood's red-carpet go-to looks highlight her athletic waist and often rely heavily on her stunning legs to make a fashion statement. But it may be time for her to revamp her strategy as even Underwood's flawless legs couldn't redeem some of her ugliest outfit choices throughout her career.

Carrie Underwood's sexy dress looked silly at the 2009 ACMs

At the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards in 2009, Carrie Underwood sang in a silky bubble dress that would've been better suited as a romper worn to a nightclub. This confusing outfit looked like a combination between a Grecian goddess and runaway bride from Las Vegas. The sleeveless minidress made Underwood look shorter and the one shoulder plume connected to the neckpiece felt like a costume. Her intention to look sweet was lost thanks to the silver seam along the bottom of the skirt which resembled a garter.

Carrie Underwood rocked too many contrasting styles at the 2009 CMAs

Carrie Underwood was initially used to dressing as America's sweetheart by frequently wearing minidresses with ruffles and poofs, similar to outfits you would find at a prom. But when performing at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards in 2009, Underwood left her sweet-girl image behind in favor of an edgy ensemble. She took the stage in silver shorts and a gold duster that served as an overcoat. Sadly, the duster didn't scream "rock goddess" but instead felt more like "Vegas grandma."

Carrie Underwood cosplayed as a coffee sleeve at the Soul Surfer movie premiere

Carrie Underwood's foray into acting for the 2011 film "Soul Surfer" deserved more than this paper-bag-adjacent dress. Streamers along the waist and skirt looked like an arts-and-crafts project gone wrong. The light-brown color with random black embellishments failed to pop. Plus the boring beige tone of the dress clashed with Underwood's skin which made her legs look washed out. The peep-toe pumps should've been swapped out for a cute flat shoe while the dress should have been ditched all together in favor of something more trendy.

Carrie Underwood wore an explosive, unflattering outfit to the American Idol finale in 2012

Carrie Underwood's return to her roots at the 2012 "American Idol" finale should've called for style and celebration. But this minidress would've been better suited for an Independence Day barbecue in a neighbor's backyard. The hefty shape did nothing for Underwood's figure and the strange explosions of glitter on the fabric looked like they could've been an accident. This unorganized design and puffy sleeves felt too old fashioned for the "Before He Cheats" singer, who was still in her 20s at the time. It didn't help that her clutch purse looked like a lead pipe.

Carrie Underwood failed at New York Fashion Week in 2014

With a few small edits, this outfit could've looked good on Carrie Underwood. But as is, the dress design simply featured an old-fashioned pattern on an unflattering silhouette. The ornamentation worked on the sleeves and bottom of the skirt, but the angular design on the hips was too much. It did nothing for Underwood's figure and offered nothing exciting visually. Also, her choice to wear ankle boots undermined her legs by adding a harsh cut-off point vertically. The clunky shoe style weighed Underwood down to make this entire outfit feel off balance.

Carrie Underwood channeled a cyborg at the ACMs in 2016

Carrie Underwood has successfully performed in metallic ensembles while on her music tours, but her robotic dress at the 2016 ACM Awards just looked crazed. The textured fabric seemed to replicate snake skin but ultimately felt overly dramatic with its many pointy shards. One arm being fully covered made the dress look heavy and the asymmetrical skirt cut wasn't chic, but sloppy. It was certainly a choice to cover most of Underwood's legs with knee-high boots that had straps and cutouts so even her stunning gams couldn't save this outfit.

Too much shimmer made Carrie Underwood look strange

At the 2017 Country Music Television (CMT) Awards, Carrie Underwood's outfit looked like the designers ran out of fabric by the time they got to the skirt. The top was messy but the skirt was where this outfit fell apart. Not only did it start too high up on Underwood's waist and cut off at a strange angle, but it also made her torso look shorter and nearly nonexistent. The galactic-colored ruffles weren't cute and the hem looked like it was cut by a child who wanted to use their favorite crafting scissors.

Did Carrie Underwood mean to wear a purse as a skirt at the 2017 CMAs?

Carrie Underwood's structured minidress at the CMAs in 2017 resembled a full square purse around her waist, complete with a huge flap in the front. Too much weight from the skirt overshadowed her legs and its boxy shape played with her proportions in the most unflattering way, making the "Blown Away" singer look wide. And we can't move on without mentioning the questionable color of sparkling silver with hints of abrasive copper. With its oddly shaped skirt, this dress would've made more sense on the Met Gala (otherwise known as the fashion event of the year) red carpet.

Carrie Underwood's sexy dress at the 2022 CMT Awards was embarrassingly short

Count this sleeveless leopard-print minidress as one of Carrie Underwood's most inappropriate outfits yet. As if her skirt wasn't already short enough, the slit up her legs left absolutely nothing to the imagination. The sexy purple leather wasn't fit for a country music award show carpet and felt out of place alongside other stars that wore softer fabrics. Underwood didn't look comfortable in her skin-tight silhouette that almost looked like it was choking her; her body language gave off a feeling of awkwardness that was hard to miss.
