The Outdated Accessory Karoline Leavitt Won't Purge From Her Wardrobe
Apparently when it comes to the White House, the spirit of Elvis hasn't left the building. As part of Donald Trump's inauguration celebration in January 2025, an Elvis Presley impersonator serenaded him and Melania. Add to that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who can't seem to get enough of one of the music legend's iconic accessories from the '70s: the dark aviators. She and work pal Margo Martin took a selfie in the Middle East in May 2025 wearing twinning aviator sunglasses that proved that at least two people were ready to bring this trend back to life.
Probably many of us have aviators sitting in the wardrobe, waiting to pull them back out again when the time is right. The time, however, is not right now. Instead, we're looking to sunglasses that are among our favorite styles for standing the test of time, like D-frames, and the big-for-2026 trends like oversized, shield, oval, and cat-eye styles.
On-trend, flaterring sunglasses don't appear to be Karoline Leavitt's thing
Sometimes an element of fashion can repeatedly stump some people yet they keep trying, and that may be the case with Karoline Leavitt and sunglasses. We have yet to see her get it right. There are plenty of tips for choosing sunglasses that are best-suited to your face shape out there, yet she chooses to push against such advice. For example, the round pair she wore on a trip to Barcelona in 2018 serve to amplify the roundness of her features. Also, by '18, mirrored lenses were looking very outdated.
Then there's the black narrow horizontal pair she wore in Florida, which she posted an Instagram pic of in early 2023. She's a step closer to creating balance by choosing a more angular pair; however, this shape would suit someone with a long or narrow face because it adds width, which is something Leavitt's face shape doesn't need. Then there's the giant logo medallions on the arms. Both these and the circular frame sunnies from 2018 are examples of outdated sunglasses trends that flew too close to the sun. Instead, we'd suggest she choose an elegant cat-eye shape to add more angles to her face without extra width. But perhaps that's not channeling Elvis enough for her and her boss?
