The Most Inappropriate Outfits In BAFTA Awards History

Award shows are the perfect opportunity for an unforgettable fashion moment, a fact that's known worldwide. Across the pond, the British Academy Film Awards, commonly known as the BAFTAs, are annually held in England by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Think of it as the British equivalent to the Oscars. A-listers from all over the world gather at the BAFTAs to celebrate film achievements, and Americans have their eyes on the red carpet, too, in order to see how the fashion compares to what's worn in the States.

The BAFTAs red carpet provides a chance for stars to wear winning looks in stunning gowns and experimental fashions. Some choose to make bold statements, while others keep it classic in styles that have stood the test of time. Sadly, the occasional celebrity will fall short of hitting a fashion home run like the worst-dressed celebs at the 2025 BAFTAs, for example. Attendees both veteran and newcomer have made the mistake of wearing outfits that didn't feel right in tone for the event, whether too casual, overly revealing, or downright silly. Longtime attendees like Sienna Miller have made wardrobe blunders in their time, and even younger fashionistas like Camila Cabello and Anya Taylor-Joy have also made less-than-stellar impressions with their misguided choices of clothing. Here is a roundup of outfits that we just can't forgive for feeling so out of place at the BAFTAs over the years. 

British entertainer Tracy Shaw looked like she was paying tribute to America's country music stars with her outfit at the 2002 BAFTAs. She wore a bedazzled pale-blue jumpsuit with a floppy cowboy hat and matching clutch. This type of silhouette was often worn by Elvis Presley, although Shaw made it scandalous with a way-too-low neckline that barely covered her chest. She also showed off her legs with a super-high slit on the side. We'll chock up this bizarre style choice to the unusual outfits of Y2K fashion.  

Actor Sienna Miller resembled a sugar plum fairy when she wore a slip dress decorated with candy canes at the 2005 BAFTAs. The loose top barely covered Miller's chest and in certain lights, her skirt was completely translucent showing off her underwear. This dress was risqué with its see-through material, and what was Miller thinking by picking this Christmas outfit for a major award show in February? The childish dress choice made her look too immature to be at this high-class event.

Reality TV personality Rosie Fortescue proved at the 2015 BATFA Awards that a dress covering the arms and legs isn't guaranteed to be modest. Her highly sheer floor-length gown was made of a mesh-adjacent fabric that included multiple cutouts. The curved stripes just barely covered up Fortescue's most intimate areas while the rest of her body was exposed. Her back was on full display as the gown included a gaping hole from nape to rear, making it clear that she didn't wear any type of bra with the mesh top. 

Anya Taylor-Joy stunned at the BAFTAs when she wore an avant-garde gold velvet hood that draped over her shoulders. But when the outerwear was removed to reveal a nude minidress underneath, it looked as though the actor was wearing nothing at all. The barely noticeable garment was only inches long and strapless, exposing the majority of the actor's body to the crowd. The dress might've worked for a party, but it was out of place at the BAFTAs.

Model Tatiana Korsakova must have mistaken the prestigious BAFTAs red carpet in 2025 for a runway ... or maybe a bedroom. She wore a sexy and sheer black strapless bodysuit that just barely held up over her chest. She embraced the dramatic opera glove trend with long, sultry lace gloves. These made the outfit feel increasingly scandalous as a formal fabric like silk would've been more appropriate for the event. Her bold blue bow skirt started just below her backside, adding a cheeky element to the only classy facet of the outfit.   

Camila Cabello seemed determined to channel old Hollywood glam with her 2025 outfit at the BAFTA Awards. The outfit consisted of a shiny, strapless nude leotard and a diamond skirt that rose into a jeweled collar around the singer's neck. While beautiful, diamonds can only provide so much coverage and Cabello's sparkling skirt illuminated on top of her bare legs. The entire ensemble was mainly comprised of undergarments only, meaning it barely qualified as a dress.
