With over three decades in the spotlight, Nicole Kidman has solidified her status as a Hollywood legend. Over the years, the Australian actor has starred in plenty of blockbusters and critically acclaimed projects, walked many red carpets, and given us numerous memorable fashion moments. However, while Kidman loves taking fashion risks, not all of them pay off. Sometimes she ends up making questionable fashion choices, particularly when it comes to her more maximalist pieces. The Academy Award winner loves feathers, glitter, and patterns, but sometimes she can go overboard with them. Nevertheless, Nicole Kidman's worst fashion flops remain a testament to her willingness for fashion experimentation, which is crucial for anyone who wants to have fun with their look.

When Nicole Kidman set foot on the red carpet at the premiere of the film "The Northman" in 2022, it was impossible to not cringe at her dress. The actor wore a Prada gown that had so many different elements to it that one didn't know where to look first. The pale lime-green long-sleeved gown featured a black turtleneck, bedazzled shoulders with large pink feathers, and gold embroidered details along the skirt. The actor kept the accessories to a minimum, but that still couldn't save the look.

Nicole Kidman is clearly a big fan of bold shoulder details, as her 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards dress proves. The actor arrived at the ceremony in a green Gucci number covered in sequins and featuring a dramatic deep V neckline. In theory, this should have worked, but the toucan details on the shoulders made the piece a tad too showgirl-esque. Paired with the odd slits on the side of the skirt, the piece once again had too much going on.

Nicole Kidman showed up to the premiere of the 2025 film "Holland" in a striped 2008 Fendi dress that instantly reminded us of an umbrella. The top of the dress was covered by a poncho-like tulle collar that created an odd silhouette. To make matters worse, the white silk fabric peeking awkwardly from the tulle hemline seemed completely out of place. Kidman's entire look was confusing and odd, and as a seasoned red carpet fashionista, she should have known better.

In 2017, Nicole Kidman attended the amfAR Gala during the Cannes Film Festival, and for the occasion, she went with a black Chanel dress. The garment featured dramatic shoulder pads, a sequined bodice, and one of Kidman's favorite details: feathers. However, with the tulle skirt, skinny pink belt, and all of the other textures, the black dress seemed more like a "Black Swan" costume than a red carpet piece. Even though Kidman loves intricate fashion, this was not one of her best looks.

With so many events and premieres to attend, it's no wonder that Nicole Kidman ends up rocking a bad look here and there. In 2016, the Golden Globe winner attended a screening of the film "Lion" in a beige knee-length dress with so many elements that none of them worked. The garment by Rodarte featured a sequin triangle at the front, framed with white tulle ribbon that spread across the skirt of the dress. As if that wasn't odd enough, the straps of the gown had long pieces attached to them, and the bottom of the skirt had numerous embellishments.

Saying goodbye to less-is-more fashion trends with maximalist outfits is harder than it sounds — and Nicole Kidman is proof. In 2018, the "Babygirl" star showed up to the AACTA Awards in a busy design by Valentino. While there have been plenty of times celebs stunned in Valentino on the red carpet, Kidman's colorful gown with sequin embellishments and mesh isn't really a great example of it. A piece like this would work in an editorial photoshoot, but it wasn't great red carpet material.

Velvet fashion might seem like a great choice in person, but on camera, it can often look a lot different. In 2017, Nicole Kidman attended the CMT Artists of the Year Awards alongside her now ex-husband, Keith Urban, and for the occasion, the Hollywood star decided to go with a baby-pink long-sleeved dress by Versace. While the velvet didn't photograph ideally, the piece was also an odd length, falling somewhere between a long and a midi dress.

It's clear by now that if Nicole Kidman sees a dress with both sequins and lace, she's going to wear it. In 2019, the star attended the Academy of Country Music Awards, where she walked the red carpet in an interesting piece by Christopher Kane. However, between the ultra-poofy sleeves and the odd sparkly silver skirt, the dress was doing a little too much, thereby taking away from Kidman's naturaly glowing beauty.

The press run for the film "Lion" in 2016 certainly wasn't Nicole Kidman's most fashionable era. For the project's premiere in Sydney, Australia, the Hollywood star chose a distressed blue dress by Erdem. The design featured lace, embellishments, sparkles, ruffles, and basically everything that Kidman seems to be fond of. Unfortunately, the star once again didn't pay attention to the length, and the dress ended up cutting her legs short.

For the 2019 Hollywood Film Awards, Nicole Kidman decided to rock an all-white gown. The long-sleeved satin dress by Loewe featured numerous white rosettes attached to it. Thanks to its slightly looser sleeves, the piece was giving off a nightgown vibe, but we could have let that slide if it wasn't for the harsh white color. The dress ended up washing the Aussie actor out, which was particularly noticeable in flash photography.
