Personal Stylist Tells Us How Erika Kirk Can Elevate Her Dated Pageant Look

As we've gotten to know all about Charlie Kirk's wife and widow, Erika Kirk, we've dipped our pedicured toes into her past, including her days as a pageant queen. Erika won the title of Miss Arizona in 2012, and looking back at pics from the time, we see that she was what many would consider a "typical" pageant contestant with sparkly outfits that skim her figure. Though she's years past her pageant era, the Turning Point USA CEO still seems to lean into this vibe when she's hitting stages around the country, most notably in sequin-heavy outfits that Erika Kirk should've saved for New Year's Eve.

"When you've been in pageants, the look of big hair, bold makeup, figure-hugging silhouettes, sparkle, and drama can stay with you," San Diego-based personal stylist and image consultant Cynthia Kennedy exclusively tells Glam. "There's nothing wrong with it; it's just very specific. And pageant style is made for a brightly lit stage and doesn't necessarily work for normal events or political settings."

How would Kennedy, who hosts an online style course called Your Style Transformation Academy, elevate Erika's dated pageant style to feel more current? "Overall, refinement isn't about toning her down. It's about adding depth. When everything is high glamour all the time, there's no contrast. Adding a little structure and texture creates more dimensions. That is what turns someone from 'pageant' to 'polished public figure'," she tells us. Now, let's get into how Erika can put that into practice.

Erika Kirk should incorporate refined textures to move beyond her pageant-y past

Our stylist, Cynthia Kennedy, recommends "intentional editing" for Erika Kirk to update her pageant style. "If I were advising Erika on her style, my advice would be this: Keep the confidence, but leave the costume behind," she exclusively tells Glam. "There's nothing wrong with glamour. However, if all your outfits are glitzy, very tight, or extremely girly, it begins to seem predictable." Some of them are likely also uncomfortable, which we saw with Erika Kirk's sequin pantsuit in December 2025, for instance.

Kennedy has some specific garments in mind for Erika, too. "For example, tailored trousers instead of tight leather, a sleek midi-dress instead of a frilly mini, and a modern sheath with clean lines instead of head-to-toe sequins. She can still appear strong and feminine, but it's more about balance and being polished," she says. For instance, the tailored white suit she wore for Charlie Kirk's memorial in September 2025 looked more refined than the brash gold and exaggerated trousers she wore at a Turning Point event that December. Kennedy adds, "A sharp blazer with a little texture feels powerful. A monochromatic outfit in a rich color would look refined and sophisticated. Luxe fabrics –- like crepe, silk or structured wool –- would mature her overall look without dulling her presence." Easy enough!

Kennedy finishes with a pro tip that all of us, including Erika, can use: "Confidence is strongest when it feels easy and effortless, not when it is turned up to the loudest level all the time."
