The ladies of MAGA may be known for a lot of things, but applying makeup well isn't one of them. There's a reason the term "Republican makeup" became synonymous with those in President Donald Trump's camp, and that's because they're known for wearing heavy foundation, huge false lashes at any time of the day, and blocky eyebrows. Kristi Noem, who's made some of the biggest makeup mistakes, is guilty of such beauty blunders and has acquired an affliction that we makeup artists call eyebrow blindness. And after over 15 years working in the industry, I can firmly say that the former Department of Homeland Security secretary has one of the worst cases.

Noem didn't always cake on the products, and in fact, when she ran for governor of South Dakota in 2016, she sported a fairly natural look. However, as she became more entrenched with MAGA, her makeup began to look more like that of Kimberly Guilfoyle and Lara Trump. Kristi Noem's face has certainly transformed over the years, and her Mar-a-Lago aesthetic unfortunately includes tacky eyebrows that no decent makeup artist would ever recreate.

It seemed she got a bit overzealous while drawing them on, as the tails went way past their endpoints. They also sloped down a bit too far, giving Noem the illusion of a droopy appearance. If your winged eyeliner is almost hitting your brows, it's time to restructure your makeup placement. A good lesson in eyebrow mapping wouldn't hurt the politician.

A shade or two darker or lighter is ideal, and in her case, she would look best with an ashy chestnut color, which would soften up her face. Noem should ditch whatever she's using and instead use the eyeshadow trick that gives a natural look sans pencils. All she needs is a small angled brush and a dark-brown brow powder to fill in sparse areas. A slight feathering technique would give her the best eyebrows and be more forgiving of mistakes.

Kristi Noem is proof that eyebrow blindness doesn't just happen overnight — it takes time to build immunity to how much product you're piling on. Hers seem to have started around 2020, when her Republican makeup was in full effect, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. While addressing the virtual attendees of the Republican National Convention that year, Noem's eyebrows cut through the screen, although they weren't as dark as their current state. They were, however, drawn on poorly, with one thicker than the other, and both sporting the harsh edges Noem clearly loves.

Kristi Noem shared an adorable selfie with her granddaughter, Adeline West Peters, in February 2025, with both beaming at the camera. But the smile sadly didn't reach the 50-something-year-old's eyebrows. The ultra-dark color overpowered Noem's eyes, and the harsh shape aged her, especially with the slight angle she prefers. Brows should complement your features, not make you look angry, and if the rancher was going for a statement pair, this one sent the wrong message. Hopefully, Peters doesn't follow in her grandmother's footsteps and leaves her gorgeous brows alone.
