When it comes to women in politics, Hillary Clinton has undeniably left her mark. Since she became first lady in January 1993, Hillary's path has been impressive, with the lawyer becoming secretary of state in 2009 and running for president in 2016. And as Hillary is approaching her 80s, it has become clear just how stunning the politician looks. In fact, side-by-side pics prove Hillary Clinton is aging like fine wine.
To help us understand whether Hillary underwent any plastic surgery to maintain her beauty, we've enlisted the help of board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Raja Mohan, who shares with us just what he notices on the politician's face. "As individuals age, it is common to see changes related to skin laxity, volume loss in the midface, and jowling," he tells us exclusively, explaining that some of the changes we've noticed in Hillary's face are completely normal. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Hillary Clinton's face transformation began all the way back in the 1980s, when she was rocking brown hair and bushy eyebrows.
1985-1995: Hillary Clinton loves a red lip and blended eyeliner
When Hillary Clinton first entered the political scene as President Bill Clinton's wife in the early 1990s, the lawyer was rocking much darker hair than the blond shade she is known for today. In the '80s, Hillary had brown hair, which perfectly matched her dark and bushy eyebrows. The color enhanced her features, creating a stark contrast between her skin and hair. However, it was a major difference from what her locks look like today, which is why she is one of the political ladies who are almost unrecognizable with their natural hair color.
While Hillary was never particularly known for her makeup, the Chicago native was rarely spotted without her red lipstick and smudged eyeliner. The look was effortless and chic, and it certainly helped enhance her features. While she often used makeup on her eyes and lips, Hillary's skin was rarely covered in heavy foundation. Actually, Hillary rocked a dewy, natural-looking base back then, proving that the less-is-more trend in makeup is truly timeless.
1996-2005: Hillary Clinton goes blonder and embraces thinner eyebrows
In the late 2000s and early 2010s, Hillary Clinton's hair became lighter and shorter, both of which changed the appearance of her face. With the lighter shade of blond, the stark contrast between her features disappeared, and Hillary's face now appeared softer and more even. The former first lady also replaced her shoulder-length hair with a shorter layered haircut that had plenty of fun face-framing pieces. In fact, she is one of the 12 first ladies whose hair transformed right before our eyes. Simultaneously, Hillary's eyebrows became noticeably thinner, as dictated by '90s trends, but it is unknown whether this is due to plucking or natural eyebrow hair loss.
In 2012, the secretary of state told CNN that her appearance isn't something she stresses much about. "If I want to wear my glasses, I'm wearing my glasses. If I want to wear my hair back I'm pulling my hair back. You know at some point it's just not something that deserves a lot of time and attention," she explained (via ABC). Nevertheless, a subtle red lip remained the politician's favorite makeup look, as she often gravitated towards it.
2006-2015: Hillary Clinton embraces her signs of aging
By the late 2000s, Hillary Clinton had entered her 50s, and with that, the politician became noticeably more lax about her gray hairs showing. Now, she was rocking plenty of high and lowlights, creating a multidimensional hair color that helped her grays blend in perfectly. Hillary also switched to a voluminous and poufy style, adding height to her face and helping elongate her features.
Makeup-wise, Hillary stayed loyal to a subtle lip color and smudged eyeliner, a look she stuck to for the majority of her career. Unlike during her beginnings in the spotlight, she was now rocking slightly more coverage when it came to her base. Still, the former secretary of state never went for a heavy foundation, ensuring that her freckles and subtle imperfections still somewhat showed. By now, Hillary's signs of aging were visible, as fine lines and wrinkles around her mouth and eyes formed whenever she talked or smiled.
In his 2015 book "Unlikable," investigative reporter Ed Klein claims that Hillary's husband Bill Clinton "wanted her to get a facelift," explaining that "she couldn't do anything about the calendar — she'd be 69 years old in 2016 — but she could do something about the lines and sagging skin on her face" (via New York Post). Klein further added that Hillary "had no intention of going to a clinic." However, the author claims that Hillary did do injectables like fillers and Botox to help her minimize her signs of aging. "She took it gradually and didn't have anything drastic done, because she wanted to evaluate the changes as she proceeded. If it had started to make her look weird, she would have stopped it immediately. It was a pretty big deal and required multiple visits," Klein wrote.
2016-2025: Hillary Clinton sticks to her signature look
Through the late 2010s and early 2020s, Hillary Clinton didn't make any drastic changes to her hair or makeup routine. The politician stuck to a bob haircut styled in a side part, highlighted blond hair color, and minimal makeup. Her signature red lip became more muted and natural, and her black smudged eyeliner was often replaced with a much more subtle brown one.
The signs of aging became more prominent on Hillary's face; however, we can't help but notice that her forehead was still mostly smooth. Of course, some people form few forehead wrinkles as they don't naturally move the muscles in the area a lot, and considering that Hillary has wrinkles in other areas of her face, this could very much be the case. Side-by-side pics of Hillary in 2017 and 2025 also showcase how her hooded eyes have changed, which is often linked to Botox or even a blepharoplasty, neither of which has been confirmed by the politician.
2026-Present: Hillary Clinton looks great in her late 70s
As the second half of the 2020s kicked off, Hillary Clinton's face transformation is undeniable. Since the '80s, the politician has changed her hair and makeup routines, always ensuring her look is simple and timeless. Exclusively for Glam, Dr. Raja Mohan explains that Hillary most likely never underwent any plastic surgery. "If she did have anything, then they are small changes. She may have tried non-invasive treatments for short-term effects for major appearances such as filler or laser treatment," he tells us. However, Dr. Mohan adds that "she could consider facial rejuvenation with facelifts, eyelid surgery in the future."
In March 2026, many noticed that Hillary Clinton's face looked rejuvenated and fresh. "Oh they snatched her face back. She looks great," a user wrote on X, with many others sharing a similar sentiment. Whether Hillary underwent any procedures or simply uses efficient skincare is unknown, but there is no denying that her skin looks natural and dewy as she approaches her 80s.
