Outfits Yellowstone & Dutton Ranch Star Kelly Reilly Should Have Left In Her Closet

British actor Kelly Reilly has garnered an illustrious film and television career. She has appeared in popular movies including "Pride and Prejudice" and "Sherlock Holmes." Her career has had a resurgence due to her role as Beth Dutton on Taylor Sheridan's hit series "Yellowstone." She's now stepping back into character for the "Yellowstone" spin-off "Dutton Ranch," which will premiere in May 2026. For fans who are wondering what Beth Dutton from "Yellowstone" looks like in real life, the answer is that she is a stunning redhead. One advantage of her having red hair is that the vivid color gives her a bonus element to play with when it comes to choosing outfits. Her style has ranged from elegant gowns to casual ensembles during public appearances. But with such a long standing career, there are bound to be some misguided fashion choices if we dig into her past.

The fact is that while Reilly is a beauty, her wardrobe over the years has included a few failures. From wearing dated trends to unflattering accessories and having to deal with the occasional weather-related mishap, there have been a few red carpet moments that we're sure Reilly would rather forget. Take a look at some of her most unfortunate outfits that she should have kept hidden away.

Kelly Reilly's Celtic-coded dress failed to land at Sundance in 2014

At the Sundance Film Festival in 2014, Kelly Reilly went in full character mode and paid tribute to her European roots. Too bad her outfit wasn't a home run. The low cut scoop neckline with lace straps felt unnecessarily sexual, but the bottom is where the ensemble really fell apart. On the skirt were uneven oversized cutouts which made the velvet material looked ripped across the floral lace design. With her red hair and pleather brown boho belt (another '00s trend that came back in full swing in the 2020s), Reilly could've easily been mistaken for the Scottish princess Merida from Pixar's "Brave."

Kelly Reilly held on to old middle school trends for way too long

Actor portraits are meant to feel deep and dimensional, but Kelly Reilly's 2014 Sundance portraits were cheapened by her out-of-date styling. She wore a perfectly fine black blouse and paired it with a major fashion trend of preteens in the mid-2000s: a denim skirt over leggings. The outfit was already outdated at the time and looking back now, it just feels juvenile. Her attempt to cover the leggings with black boots was a nice touch, but the tall boots would've looked better with no leggings at all.

The rain put Kelly Reilly's premiere dress out of its misery

It's risky to wear a train to an outdoor event, and Kelly Reilly learned that lesson the hard way. The 2009 premiere of "Sherlock Homes" in London took place on a rainy day and water that pooled on the ground ended up staining Reilly's skirt. Puddles of mud and wetness dirtied the color of the light apricot-toned dress. A giant beaded decoration on the front of the skirt already looked like a burnt peach, and the rain damage only further made the gown feel like decaying fruit.

Kelly Reilly dressed too casually in an early Y2K staple

Prior to the filming of "Sherlock Holmes," the cast gathered for a press conference in 2008 — but it appeared that Kelly Reilly misunderstood the dress code. She wore a typical 2000s-esque "going out" top with a gold statement halter neckline. Though clearly meant for going out, this type of garment was not dressy enough when compared with her co-stars' outfits, and her decision to pair it with business trousers felt mismatched. Standing next to Rachel McAdams, who wore a cute strapless dress, made Reilly look much older and out of touch.

Did Kelly Reilly wear pajamas to a movie premiere?

Kelly Reilly wore what appeared to be sleepwear to the premiere of the 2005 film "Russian Dolls" in Paris, France. Her dress was a mixture of gold with small pink paint strokes and consisted of skinny straps, silk chest panels, and a short hem. The outfit looked like a piece of lingerie or cheeky pajamas that the protagonist in a 2000s romantic comedy would wear. The lack of top and short hemline felt too informal for this type of event, especially in what is widely considered the fashion capital of the world.

Kelly Reilly's ill-fitting dress was a major downer

It's clear that Kelly Reilly was experimenting with darker color palettes when this photo was taken at an awards ceremony in Cannes, France, in 2005. Her chestnut-brown hair and casual black-striped dress were an unsuccessful attempt at being edgy. Everything about this was the wrong pick for Reilly, as the lackluster color made her skin and facial features look pale. The shape did absolutely nothing for her figure while the skinny belt was pointless and flimsy, leaving no impression whatsoever. Above all, the random directions of the stripes felt distracting.
