'I'm Like Home Base': How Jamie Lee Curtis Cultivated Her Decades-Long Friendship With Lindsay Lohan

If there's one thing that Hollywood rarely guarantees, it's lasting relationships, but Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are the sweet exception to that rule. The two met on the set of the 2003 classic "Freaky Friday," in which Curtis, a wound-tight mom, and Lohan, a rebellious teenager, switch bodies and walk a mile in each other's shoes. Over two decades later, the two actors ditched the onscreen chaos for a steady friendship, even when their different stages of life could make friendships suffer

In an interview with "Today," Curtis explained the taxing quid pro quo of the entertainment industry. "Show business is nothing but transaction. ... It's a business, and there's no place in a business for children," she said. Furthermore, as someone who understands the grueling complexities of the business, the actor emphasized the importance of maintaining relationships with young actors, as she did with Lohan. "The relationship you've made with these children has to remain. ... I try to say to everybody, particularly young people, 'I am safe. I am like home base. I'm safe. I do not want anything from you,'" she shared.

What Lindsay Lohan has said about her friendship with Jamie Lee Curtis

As for Lindsay Lohan, who has had quite the stunning hair transformation, she recalled Jamie Lee Curtis being there for her through tough times. "Jamie was with me at a time in my life when I was going through a lot publicly ... She was privately really there for me," she shared with People. The "Mean Girls" star concurred with Curtis' philosophy. "I have to feel safe around people. And Jamie is one of those people for me," she continued.

The two reunited onscreen for "Freakier Friday," in which Curtis plays a grandmother to Lohan's onscreen teenage daughter. But it didn't happen overnight, despite fans spending two decades asking for it. The idea was long held back by timing; Lohan needed to be old enough for it to feel believable that she could have a teenage daughter. It was after Curtis met Lohan's baby that they began to spearhead the conversation, leading to the sequel's premiere in 2025.

After all these years, there's one specific piece of advice from Curtis that Lohan still takes to heart: "The way you show up to set every day depicts how everyone's day is going to go. And you set the tone. So leave everything or anything that there may be at home." So, for two actors who met on the set of a body-swap film, it's heartening that they will somehow never swap out of each other's lives.
