Heidi Klum Never Planned To Remarry After Her Seal Divorce But Then Love Struck

When Heidi Klum ended her seven-year marriage with English musician Seal, she was adamant about not getting married again — but it seems fate intervened. The German supermodel has had a tumultuous love life, including a divorce from her first husband, hairstylist Ric Pipino, and two-year fling with Italian billionaire Flavio Briatore (with whom Klum shares a daughter, Leni). However, her longest and most publicized relationship was with Seal. Klum and Seal tied the knot in 2005 after about a year of dating, and the couple welcomed three children during their marriage. However, the couple separated in 2012, eventually finalizing their divorce in 2014.

In 2013, Klum revealed to Marie Claire that she didn't plan to tie the knot again. "I don't think I will. Maybe if I'm with someone for 15 or 20 years, and we do it in our old age as a fun thing to do ... But I don't have the urgency anymore," she explained (via ABC News). Klum added that while her divorce wasn't easy, she doesn't think it was the worst thing to ever happen.

Even after Klum decided she was ready to date again after divorce, and moved on to gallery owner Vito Schnabel in 2014, she doubled down on her decision to never marry again. "I've done it twice and it didn't really work out for me, so why hurt something when it's all good the way it is," she explained to People in 2016. However, less than a year after ending things with Schnabel, Klum began dating German musician Tom Kaulitz. Unlike other celebrity couples who never want to get married, Klum changed her mind.

Who is Heidi Klum's third husband, Tom Kaulitz?

As a member of the rock band Tokio Hotel, Tom Kaulitz was already famous in Germany. Dating supermodel Heidi Klum, however, put the musician in the international spotlight, as everyone was curious about the man who changed Klum's decision to never marry again. The two German stars met at a party in 2018 and began dating. Klum quickly changed her stance on marriage, and she and Kaulitz got engaged in December 2018, followed by a quiet wedding in February 2019.

In a 2024 conversation with People, Klum revealed that her children played a significant role in her decision to get married again. "The sweetest thing that my partner has done for me is that he asked my kids first if he could ask for my hand," the model revealed. "So he kind of was in cahoots with my kids ... I thought that was so nice that he involved my kids." With 17 years between them, Klum and Kaulitz are definitely among the celebrity relationships with bigger age gaps than you realized. Klum addressed the age difference in the interview, stating, "I know that I will look older than him sooner," she said, adding, "Maybe it will be a problem for me in 10 years' time, maybe he won't like it then."

Still, Klum prefers to live in the present and not worry about things that aren't a problem yet. The German model also appreciated the changing perceptions towards her unique style of May-December romance. "I think more and more it's accepted to be an older woman with a younger man." she told People in 2025.
