Katie Holmes' Balayage Lob Is One Of Her Best Hair Looks Of All Time

The stunning hair transformation of Katie Holmes proves that there isn't much the actor can't pull off. While she's tried a few different things with her hair over the years — from a true bob to voluminous curls to a pixie cut — it's one look in particular that has us completely stunned. In April 2026, at the AAFA American Image Awards, Holmes showed up sporting a lob haircut with a gorgeous balayage color, and she looked more elegant than ever. Having seen what Katie Holmes looks like makeup-free, it's clear that the actor's natural beauty pairs well with her new low-maintenance hairstyle. Her perfect in-between length lob haircut is one of her best so far, if we do say so.

While Holmes has made subtle changes to her hair color over the years, going from deep brunette to a a lighter honey shade, we love how rich yet subtle this new look is for her. Holmes's hairstylist Gina Gilbert told Vogue in April 2026, "I would describe Katie's color as a dark honey blonde with beige champagne highlights for contrast." Gilbert mentioned the importance of careful color methods, like root melts, to keep hair looking dimensional and not flat. "I used the Balayage technique and hand-painted all of the ends to make them lighter and brighter, a sun-kissed finish," she noted. 

One of Holmes' biggest hair swings, however, was in 2007 when she opted for a super short bob and bangs, which you can see in the above photo. The look borders on a pixie cut and it was a big risk for the actor. But the cut totally works for her face shape, proving that Holmes isn't afraid to follow her instincts when it comes to making hair changes. The not-quite-pixie cut was trendy at the time and Holmes was amongst a slew of celebrities to give it a go. But despite the popularity of the style, Holmes somehow managed to make it look like it belonged exclusively to her.

Katie Holmes has made pretty solid hair choices over the years, but another one that really stands out are the shadow bangs she got in 2023. The actor proved that you can effortlessly wear a timeless style, but still add trendier elements to keep things fresh. Shadow bangs, a term created by celebrity hairstylist Tom Smith, features an blunt fringe trimmed just above the eye line. Holmes' trendy new bangs paired well with her long, mid-back-length hair for a dramatic, but not overwhelming, look.
