The Worst-Dressed Celebs At The 2026 Cannes Film Festival

If you thought the biggest fashion-meets-film event couldn't get any more theatrical, the 2026 Cannes Film Festival has taken it upon itself to prove that sentiment wrong. As self-appointed fashion police, we expected the good, the bad, and the ugly, and even anticipated updating our list of the Cannes Film Festival looks we'll never forget. What we didn't expect was how many celebs would go out of their way to creatively bypass the festival's two major rules banning nudity and voluminous outfits, and yet do such terrible jobs at it. After all, if you're going to treat the rules like loose suggestions, the outfits should justify the rebellion.

Since the festival was slated for May 12 to May 23, 2026, we've had a lot of time to analyze the looks, and another disappointing surprise was how many of the worst-dressed celebs were styled by major luxury labels like Chanel, Elie Saab, Celine, and Prada. We're talking sheer dresses done wrong, oversized bows that swallowed entire silhouettes, poorly chosen fabrics, and outfits that were more visually unappealing than in previous years.

Sure, we had a list of the worst-dressed celebs at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, but many of those outfits failed simply because of poor execution. This year, however, we've been overwhelmed by low-effort ensembles, inspiration droughts, and a saddening lack of intrigue. Stars like Kristen Stewart, Bella Hadid, and Hannah Einbinder proved that custom couture doesn't always guarantee a flawless 'fit.

Not even Simone Ashley's beauty could save her Cannes Film Festival outfit

We know that style is relative, but we did not love this too-casual look worn by Simone Ashley. If we were crowning the most low-effort outfit of the entire 2026 Cannes Film Festival, this dress designed by Toteme would be a strong contender. From the wrinkles to the visible undergarment, this looks like that one dress every girl might wear in the comfort of her own home, but never out in public. Ashley is absolutely gorgeous, but even good looks have their limits.

Kristen Stewart's Cannes Film Festival two-piece had us scratching our heads

It's a shame that this is the stage of Kristen Stewart's style transformation that we're in, but it's more proof that it's time for her to break up with Chanel for good. The "Twilight" actor showed up at the "Full Phil" photocall at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in a two-piece made of what looked to us like a merge of gauze and chicken wire mesh. Beyond how unflattering it looks, the addition of a pair of saddle shoes was yet another bad choice.

Bella Hadid's mother-of-the-groom Cannes Film Festival dress was a miss

Bella Hadid wore this gray Prada piece to the screening of "Garance" at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival on May 17 and left us feeling underwhelmed. The bodice and waist look ill-fitting, and the train seems out of place. The outfit looks like what you'd expect that one overbearing mother-of-the-groom to wear to upstage her daughter-in-law, and we're not loving it. In fact, it deserves a spot on the list of the most outdated outfits Bella Hadid has ever worn.

Demi Moore's hot pink dress at the Cannes Film Festival looked prom-ready

After making our list of the worst-dressed attendees at 2026 Paris Fashion Week, Demi Moore is continuing her streak with this over-the-top pink dress from Matières Fécales. The hot pink color is so blinding, but clearly not blinding enough since it does nothing to hide the shredded bottom part of the dress, the overly shiny material, and the too-large, awkwardly shaped bow. The event may have been the Cannes Film Festival, but the look was serving prom queen gone wrong.

Dua Lipa's backup dancer look proves that going archival isn't always the right move

Throwback trends have been exceedingly popular in 2026, so we were looking forward to seeing some standout looks at the Cannes Film Festival. Unfortunately, Dua Lipa let us down with this piece from Jean Paul Gaultier's 2009 spring collection. Not only is it a poor fit, but it's also too casual and low-effort for the event. A bit of layering or some creative hair styling might have given this outfit more of a wow factor.

Hannah Einbinder combined two ill-matching pieces into one boring 'fit

Minimalism has overstayed its welcome, and Hannah Einbinder's Celine outfit at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival is all the proof you need. The actor paired a white short-sleeved turtleneck with an oddly-shaped column skirt for the premiere of "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma" on May 13. A walk down the memory lane of Hannah Einbinder's style transformation features a lot of daring, fashion-forward looks, so we hope this was just a one-off.

Heidi Klum's outfit was the wrong color, style, and fit for her

Body-hugging outfits are typically seen as the perfect silhouette to highlight one's figure, but Heidi Klum's Cannes Film Festival outfit shows that other factors matter too. One Instagram user critiqued the look pretty clearly: "I love Heidi but that washed out yellow & the boring body wave hair make her look too basic." Between the cape, the padded sides, and the flower in the middle, there's so much going on and none of it flatters Klum, which is a shame considering this piece was designed by a major label like Elie Saab.

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu seemed to get lost in her dress

We're all for maximalist designs and fun, out-there colors, but Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu's dress at the opening ceremony of the "La Vénus Electrique" at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival swallowed her up.  Even though it was designed by Saint Laurent, it looks like that one dress you find thrifting before you take it to the seamstress and have it tailored to fit. Leroy-Beaulieu seems to have skipped that one last important step.
