Kylie Minogue Gave A Heartbreaking Glimpse Into Her Unsuccessful IVF Journey

Kylie Minogue has truly had to put the idea of rallying into practice. The actor-turned-singer emerged in the '80s and was accused of being a banal industry plant. She had to dodge a merciless stream of questions about her "too sexy" image and publicly nurse a heartbreak after ending things with INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, who died a couple of years later. That and more is recapped in "Kylie," her three-part Netflix docuseries released in May 2026. In the series, Minogue also discusses her early breast cancer diagnosis in 2005 at 36, a stark reminder for younger women on why it's so important to do breast self-exams and to know how to do them

A breast cancer diagnosis brings myriad concerns, including fertility. Minogue delayed chemotherapy treatments so she could undergo multiple rounds of IVF that turned out to be unsuccessful. She said in the docuseries, "If it had happened, it would have been just shy of a miracle. But it didn't work out that way. ... One can't help but wonder what it would have been like, and I'm so close to my family. It wasn't my path." Life lobbed curveballs her way, but Minogue didn't stay down. In fact, the singer launched a successful 66-stop tour that kicked off in February 2025.

Kylie Minogue isn't alone in her struggles with IVF

Kylie Minogue is just one of many celebs who have bared it all about the difficulties of conceiving through IVF. For example, Kristen Wiig admitted her IVF journey was the most difficult time in her life. The "Saturday Night Live" alum eventually went the surrogacy route to become a mother, welcoming twins. As did Gabrielle Union, who has been open about having had several miscarriages and undergoing multiple rounds of IVF. She welcomed daughter Kaavia with husband Dwayne Wade in 2018. Other women in Hollywood who have tried IVF, but it did not result in children, include Jennifer Aniston, Emma Thompson, and Sharon Osbourne.

Minogue didn't end up having any children of her own. On the docuseries, fellow singer Dannii Minogue called this outcome especially heartbreaking since her sister always saw herself as a mother. According to her, this situation didn't stop Minogue from being an incredible aunt to her nephews since she has always been "just amazing with kids."
