Isabella Rossellini's Philosophy On Makeup Is Perfect For Lazy Or Busy Girls Who Love A Little Glam
Model and actor Isabella Rossellini is just as gorgeous in her 70s as she was in her 30s. Rossellini is perhaps best known for being the face of Lancôme in the 1980s, which made her the highest-paid model in the world at the time; she was let go from the brand at age 42, but regained her status as brand ambassador 23 years later. The gorgeous Rossellini isn't gatekeeping any of the beauty secrets that have kept her looking good — and they're simpler than you may think. In March 2023, Rossellini spoke to NewBeauty about Lancôme's new campaign, giving away some of her personal beauty advice in the process.
Rossellini explained why she is seldom seen without lipstick, thanks to a tip from one of her makeup artists. "One tip they gave me that I've followed is to wear makeup every day, but without spending 30 minutes in front of the mirror," Rossellini said in the 2023 interview. "They taught me to pick one feature that I really like on myself and then make it bigger. I chose my lips, which is why I always wear red lipstick." Like Rossellini, many of us don't have the time or desire to wear a full face of makeup every day. But, if you want to do just enough to look put together, give Rossellini's strategy a try and make mascara or lipstick the star of your minimalist makeup look. There are many ways to look fresh-faced without makeup, of course, but Rossellini's method proves that adding a touch of glam to your everyday routine doesn't have to be a time consuming task.
Isabella Rossellini approaches skincare and wellness from an intentional perspective too
Isabella Rossellini remains a beauty icon even into her 70s — and we have much to learn from her wellness regimen. The "Death Becomes Her" star has spoken about her simple, holistic approach to skincare and wellness. Speaking with Town & Country in 2023, Rossellini explained that her routine isn't just about the products she uses — a philosophy that she has imparted on her daughter. "Having a healthy life, eating correctly, not smoking, and not drinking excessively helps in all domains," Rossellini said of her outlook.
That isn't to say that Rossellini neglects traditional skincare. It seems like the actress knows when skincare products aren't worth the hype. Still, she follows a religious yet simple routine for herself. In addition to her internal wellness, the accomplished model, actor, and now farmer maintains her body's external appearance by prioritizing hydration. "Since I was a little girl, I've always used cream for my face. I have an eye cream, a face cream, and then sunscreen," Rossellini told Vogue in 2018.
Rossellini has also explained that her approach to skincare isn't about preventing or slowing down the aging process; though she once considered integrating cosmetic procedures into her routine, Rossellini told The Cut in 2016 that she's ultimately "assumed" her wrinkles as they've come along. "Maybe it's cultural; I'm from Europe, and they do it less than Americans. [...] Also, I have an organic farm. It feels like an incredible contradiction to promote organic living and have Botox in my face. I do see a change in the mirror, but I'm not afraid to go out," Rossellini wisely said.
