Photos Capture Nicole Kidman's Stunning Beauty Evolution Throughout Her Career

There are actors, and then there are movie stars, and Nicole Kidman is nestled comfortably among the latter group — though she has collected a couple of hit TV shows, too. The Australian-born A-lister had her big break into the American movie market playing Dr. Claire Lewicki in "Days of Thunder," released in 1990. In the decades since, she's become a household name and has consistently delivered that slinkiness and allure that remind us of an Old Hollywood starlet. Kidman doesn't talk a ton about her personal life. Instead, she lets the work and the red carpet speak for her.

Nicole Kidman has had a head-turning style evolution, and the same thing can be said for her beauty. When she was bopping around Hollywood in the early '90s, it was all wild curls and dark lips, the early 2000s was her icy blond era, and, lately, Kidman seems happy boasting a minimal makeup look. Whatever the vibe, it all oozes that signature "it" girl sophistication.

Early 1990s: Nicole Kidman was letting her curls run wild

The pic on the left was snapped at ShoWest (now CinemaCon) in September 1992 and shows Nicole Kidman rocking golden blond hair styled in tight ringlet curls. By November 1993, Kidman had gone coppery red, and the curls had been combed out into a fluffier mane for the Los Angeles premiere of "My Life." We love the choice of brick-colored lipstick. Both looks are totally fairy tale dreamy and proof that Nicole Kidman's real-life hair is very different from the wigs she wears today.

Late 1990s: Nicole Kidman started to cozy up to the hair straightener

By the late '90s, Nicole Kidman was in on the piece-y flat-ironed hair trend. In September 1997, she swung by the New York City premiere of "The Peacemaker" with her red hair straightened and wearing a scarlet lip and matte makeup that was a bit too severe but punk-rock nonetheless. In the right pic, at Pier 60 in New York in December 1998, Kidman's hair was a shade or two lighter and she was rocking less harsh makeup, having reached for pinker tones that were a better complement to her pale complexion.

Early 2000s: Nicole Kidman adopted a lighter, Old Hollywood aesthetic

By the early 2000s, Nicole Kidman's look had shifted dramatically. Her locks were a bright blond, and the matte makeup had given way to a dewier, barely-there application that was all about the skin. When she attended the New York City premiere of "The Human Stain" in September 2003, as seen in the left photo, Kidman wore her hair in soft Old Hollywood-inspired waves. On the right, during the 61st Venice Film Festival in September 2004, she wore similar soft makeup and pulled her newly blond hair back, but left wispy curls out around her face.

Late 2000s: Nicole Kidman was rocking strong brows

Nicole Kidman's look in this era was a lovely mashup of her earlier beauty moments. Her blond was more strawberry flavored than before, and her makeup was on the softer side but punched up with a rich clay lip, heavier lashes, and strong brows. No doubt late 2000s Kidman could've offered a masterclass on how to define your brows for a more seductive appearance. The pic on the left was taken at the 79th Oscars in February 2007, and we're here for the bone straight, side-swept hair. On the right, also at the Oscars, the following year, Kidman rocked a charming loose low bun.

Early 2010s: Nicole Kidman's look got red hot

To usher in a new decade, Nicole Kidman returned to her red roots when it came to her hair choice. At this time, she was also rocking heavier eyeliner and glossier lips. In the left pic, she opted for a messy low side bun for the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards in January 2010. The right photo was snapped while Kidman was at the "Just Go With It" premiere in New York City in February 2011 with her heavily highlighted hair styled in a sexy blowout.

Late 2010s: Nicole Kidman nailed the sun-kissed vibe

By the time the late 2010s rolled around, Nicole Kidman was back to luminous blond. This time, rocking darling peachy-pink makeup. The whole look gave her a glow that delivered weekend-in-the-Hamptons vibes. At the IFP Gotham Awards in New York City in November 2017, as seen in the left pic, Kidman wore her hair down in loose curls. In the photo on the right, Kidman wore thick eyeliner and styled her hair in a half-up, half-down situation that nailed the perfectly undone aesthetic to the 53rd CMA Awards in Nashville in November 2019.

2020s: Nicole Kidman is delivering beachy bombshell vibes

Lately, in the 2020s, Nicole Kidman's blond has been a bit ashier, and she's back to her signature strong brows but updated and modernized — check the lamination. In the left photo, snapped at the Los Angeles premiere of "The Perfect Couple" in September 2024, Kidman served some serious beachy bombshell energy and rocking soft glam makeup. In the right photo, she popped out for the Chanel womenswear show during Paris Fashion Week in October 2025 with a wispy curtain bang and strong eyeliner that sucked us right into those piercing blue eyes.
