Alexis Bledel Looked So Different Without Her Signature Dark Brunette Hair

Throughout her decades-long career in Hollywood, Alexis Bledel has become something of a poster child for brunette hair. In 2024, "Rory Gilmore brunette" was trending, referring to the chocolate-chestnut hue she sported in her most famous role. The way her go-to brown color works with her overall aesthetic has also been the topic of social media conversations for years, with discussions noting that her soft brown hair makes her piercing blue eyes pop. That said, she's previously rocked a different hair look that also deserves a zoom-in. Back in 2010 at a W Magazine party, "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" star ditched her signature brunette and dabbled in a much lighter hair color.

There are some celebs who never miss with their signature beauty glam, and we'd say Bledel is one whose usual expensive brunette (here's what to ask for at the salon if you want to achieve the trend) works well. At the same time, her coppery orange lighter hair shade was a breath of fresh air. "When she dyed her hair a reddish brown color it suited her so well and made her shine," one Redditor commented.

Whether or not the color was a hit is a matter of taste, but for celebs who are frequently photographed, it's always fun to see an update from their go-to. This multi-toned red look was just that for Bledel. It softened her appearance, and though her eyes were still striking, her whole look was a little less harsh.

Alexis Bledel's copper stint was short-lived

In June 2026, Alexis Bledel promoted her movie "Ponderosa" at the Tribeca Film Festival, which allowed fans the opportunity to see what's happening with her iconic hair in her mid-40s. For the event, the actor wore her strands in a layered cut that hit just below the shoulder, with soft wispy bangs. And the shade? Still a rich mahogany, which is one of the hair colors that look amazing with blue eyes.

While it was great to see her with a lighter look for a change back in 2010, some fans still seem to prefer her signature dark locks. "[I] remember thinking Alexis' hair was darker during S3, which really suited her, but it might just have been the layered haircut + heavier makeup that gave me that impression," one "Gilmore Girls" fan wrote on Reddit. "Her hair was also definitely lighter during S6, tho, which I personally didn't care for." The show's sixth season aired a few years before Bledel showed up at the W Magazine party with orange hair, but the lightening process was obviously drawn out (much to the dismay of some fans).

Even if netizens are divided on whether the lighter look really suited the star, Bledel has options when it comes to her hair color.  She'll never go wrong by sticking with her signature brunette, but even if she wants to take a punt on a new shade in the future, the switch-up alone will surely have the chat boards buzzing.
