Kyra Sedgwick Says She Was On The Worst-Dressed List For This 1997 Outfit
Kyra Sedgwick is Hollywood royalty, but even she falls into the camp of celebs who regret certain red carpet looks. We're used to seeing celebrities in gorgeous, well-put-together gowns and suits for big awards shows, but Sedgwick and her husband, "Footloose" star Kevin Bacon, decided to go with something a little all over the place at the 1997 Golden Globes.
"I had on this turquoise blue suit and he wore a crushed-velvet suit," the star of "The Closer" recalled to People in 2021. While that doesn't necessarily sound like a total mess, Sedgwick paired the powder-blue jacket with a white blouse, shiny silver pants, peep-toe heels, and a very, very long necklace. Needless to say, that fashion risk didn't pay off. "We just kind of went wrong," Sedgwick added.

Sedgwick believes that her fashion faux pas didn't go unnoticed by style critics. "I know that I made the worst dressed [list] that evening," she admitted to People, though we couldn't find a concrete list from '97 with her on it. Sedgwick's look may not be as wrong as she remembers, either, since it appears that her outfit reflected — and even tried to elevate — the fashions of the time. One '90s red carpet trend everyone forgot about is how casual the looks were during the decade, especially compared to today's standards. So this was Sedgwick taking a big swing! Ironically, in 2015, she ended up on a best-dressed list for that same look when HuffPost ranked the best dresses at '90s Golden Globes ceremonies. With the recent comeback of '90s style, we also wouldn't be surprised if we see Sedgwick's look references on a red carpet today.

Kyra Sedgwick has a come a long way since her 1997 worst-dressed moment, and you could say that she's made it a point to stun at the Golden Globes since. At the 2026 show, she wowed in a white cap-sleeve, floor-length gown that was both classic and chic. Kevin Bacon also stepped up his fashion game with a sleek all-black suit. With that said, it's no surprise that the couple landed on the best-dressed list this time (namely, BuzzFeed's).
Sedgwick's fans couldn't help but gush about how stunning she looked when she and Bacon shared a joint Instagram post before heading off to the ceremony that night. "Such a beautiful & elegant dress!" one fan commented, while another wrote that Sedgwick was a "class act." Bacon got some love too, with one person commenting, "You two are absolutely adorable!!!! I adore you both!!!"
From the looks of the Instagram post, or how the stars adorably teased each other on stage while presenting an award during the show, the secret to Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon's decades-long relationship seems to be clear: Never stop having fun with one another. Ultimately, no matter what they're wearing, these two will always be couple goals.
