There's a typical image that comes to mind when most people think of a grandmother. While the white-haired, bespectacled woman knitting in an apron might still occasionally be found in the real world, Hollywood grandmothers tend to be a completely different kettle of fish. But that doesn't mean they don't take to the role like ducks to water, and find immense enjoyment in it.

The role of a grandparent requires a lot of love and affection, since the less fun aspects of child-rearing have been passed on to the parents (although toxic grandparents, who are more common than you'd think, might not understand that). Many older celebrities who have entered this stage of life have gushed about getting to spoil their grandkids and enjoy the bliss of having them around, without necessarily having to suffer the hardships that come with parenting. It's hard to put into words, but the sweetest snaps of Sharon Osbourne and her grandkids make it clear how enjoyable grandparenthood can be. When stars like the TV host describe the experience of watching your children have children, it leaves us with one question: What's not to love?

In terms of aesthetics, the most famous grandmothers in Hollywood don't look any different from the stars who aren't grandmas. As we can see from the likes of Kris Jenner (whose 2025 hair transformation made her look so much younger), they keep up with fashion and beauty trends, and still stun on red carpets like they always did. In that sense, they don't really match the kinds of grandmothers that many of us grew up with. But that doesn't mean they love their grandkids any less; when it comes to capturing the essence of what it means to be a doting grandmother, these celebs absolutely understand the assignment.

Kris Jenner is Hollywood's most famous grandma

Kris Jenner isn't just everybody's favorite momager; the matriarch of the KarJenner dynasty has 13 grandchildren! From her eldest daughter Kourtney Kardashian, she has Mason, Penelope, Reign, and Rocky. Then there are Kim Kardashian's kids: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. Next, she has True and Tatum from Khloé Kardashian. From Kris' only son, Robert Kardashian Jr., she has Dream. Finally, her youngest daughter Kylie Jenner has Stormi and Aire. It's kind of impressive that Kris can remember all of their names, let alone show up as a doting grandmother.

"It's so interesting when your kids start having kids and your family starts growing," Jenner shared with HuffPost in 2013. "It's the best thing that God has to offer." In true KarJenner fashion, Kris has never held back when it comes to expressing how she feels about being a grandma, even if she prefers to be called "Lovey" than any of the more traditional monikers. "Being a mother and grandmother is the most rewarding and meaningful role of my life," she wrote on a 2026 Mother's Day post on Facebook. "It has brought me more joy, love, and purpose than I ever could have imagined ... Watching [my daughters] love and raise their babies is one of the greatest gifts."

Even without Kris' heartfelt words, her feelings about being a grandma have been made abundantly clear through her many social media posts with the little ones, as well as the loving way she interacts with them on the family's reality show. As of 2026, Kendall Jenner is the only member of the famous family who doesn't have kids, and in 2024 Kris told Katie Couric that she would love for the model to have a baby one day.

Sharon Osbourne's grandkids have helped her through grief

Sharon Osbourne first became a grandmother back in 2012, when her son Jack welcomed his first daughter Pearl Clementine. At the time, the reality star and TV host could barely contain her excitement. "She is just divine ... it's so odd to me that there's now another Osbourne because there's only ever been five of us, and now there's another one, and it's like, I like this," she gushed on "Anderson Live" that May. "It's just the best." Sharon added that she's the kind of grandma who loves to spoil her grandkids with gifts, whether their parents approve or not.

The Osbourne family has extended quite a bit since 2012. Jack had two more kids with ex-wife Lisa Stelly: Andy Rose and Minnie Theodora. Then he had Maple Artemis, and in 2026, baby Ozzy Matilda, with current wife Aree Gearhart. In 2022, Kelly Osbourne also had her first baby, a son called Sidney. "It's all overwhelming," Sharon revealed to People just after Pearl was born, for which she was present in the delivery room. "But in a good way — in a really positive, lovely way. It's just amazing." Fast-forward to 2015, and Sharon told Hello! that her house had become a fun haven for her grandkids, saying, "We have a sign up at my house that says 'what goes on at grandma's, stays at grandma's' so we never talk about the things we get up to."

Sadly, family patriarch Ozzy Osbourne died in July 2025, and Sharon told Daily Mail the following year that her grandkids were helping her to get through the pain. Grief scheduling can be surprisingly effective, but so can surrounding yourself with the love of your grandchildren.

Demi Moore's granddaughter is a major source of joy

Demi Moore's killer style isn't exactly giving "traditional grandma," but she is indeed a grandmother to Louetta, who was born in April 2023, the daughter of her eldest child Rumer Willis and Derek Richard Thomas. "It's pretty incredible," Moore told ABC News of the transition from mom to grandma. "It almost is a bit surreal." In September 2024, she called Louetta "magical" and "a pocket of joy" on "The Jennifer Hudson Show."

One of the reasons that the "Ghost" star loves being a grandma so much is that it involves many of the blissful sides of having kids around — getting to play and laugh with them — without the harder elements that come with being a primary caregiver, like sleepless nights and discipline. If her social media posts of Louetta are anything to go by, Moore is certainly having the time of her life as a grandma. Her approach to grandparenting is similar to her approach to parenting in that she doesn't try to take over a person's life as she raises them, but rather just manages it. She also revealed on "The Jennifer Hudson Show" in 2024 that it makes her happy to know that Louetta is a product of the choices that she and her daughters have made, and she has the potential to break generational curses.

Like many Hollywood grandmas, Moore prefers to be called by a unique name rather than the more traditional "granny" or "nana." Instead, she goes by "Yaya," which is based on the Greek "yiayia." While Moore herself isn't of Greek heritage, the move was a strategic one; she told ABC News that since "yaya" is easy to say, she was hoping Louetta would utter it as one of her first words.

Whoopi Goldberg became a grandmother in her 30s

For some women, it takes a little bit of time to warm up to the idea of being a grandma, even if they grow to love it. In Whoopi Goldberg's case, she was taken aback when her daughter, Alexandra "Alex" Martin, fell pregnant with daughter Amara when she was just 15. At the time, Goldberg was only 34. Since then, Alex went on to have another daughter, Jerzey, and a son, Mason, and when Amara had her own daughter, Charli Rose in 2014, she made Goldberg a great-grandmother.

"I had just gotten into the groove of being a grandmother," she told Jimmy Fallon at the time. "It was all great. And then this girl came and said she and her man were having a baby, and I wanted to wring her neck." Despite taking a while to get used to the idea of grandkids and great-grandkids, Goldberg turned out to love spending time with her growing family. In 2006, she revealed on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that she would sometimes use her fame to get her grandkids perks, like good seats at "American Idol" tapings, and entry to the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. While she told Parade in 2007 that she wasn't the kind of grandma that cooks for the family, she did love to provide the little ones with adventure, per People

Now that her grandkids are grown up, they have grandma-grandkid dates at fashion shows , and Goldberg is always there to support their career aspirations. "Me and my grandma are super close," Amara told Essence in 2023. On "The View" in December 2025, Goldberg proudly announced the birth of her second great-grandchild, Lotus Dean, the daughter of her grandson Mason. "It's a wonderful thing," she told her co-hosts.

Goldie Hawn loves her grandkids to bits

Together with partner Kurt Russell, iconic actor Goldie Hawn has quite a nest of grandchildren. Her daughter Kate Hudson has three kids: Ryder, Bingham, and Rani Rose. Then her son Oliver has Bodhi, Wilder, and Rio. Meanwhile, Kurt's son Wyatt has two boys, Buddy and Boone, bringing the total to eight. "Happiness, joy, the joy of life, playfulness, being there," she told People, summing up the experience of being the family's matriarch.

Hawn loves to cook them breakfast and show her love in a traditional sense, but that doesn't mean she's a traditional grandmother. She doesn't go by "grandma," and she isn't the kind of grandmother that is strict or big on the discipline. "I do love being a grandmother, but I'm not the boss," she told Today in 2024. "I'm just the one that can deliver happiness to them, and also an ear if they need it." However, she is big on fun, and even invited granddaughter Rio to serve as a beta reader on her children's book "The After-School Kindness Crew: Pooch on the Loose #1." As you might have guessed, Hawn lovingly dedicated the book to all of her grandkids.

Being a grandparent undoubtedly comes with many highs, but one of the lows for Hawn came during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she wasn't able to see her grandchildren as often because of lockdowns and quarantine. "My grandkids call me GoGo and they are like: 'GoGo, I wish I could just hug you!'" she recalled to Hello! at the time. "And that is so hard." But despite the hardships, the "First Wives Club" star is winning at life with her beautiful grandkids. Even when the little ones aren't around, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are undeniably couple goals.
