4 Taylor Swift Songs That May Have Helped Inspire Her Wedding

Taylor Swift is the queen of self-referential media. Within her music, tours, and outfits, she's constantly weaving references and narratives from past songs into her present work — never forgetting where she came from. Therefore, it was not a major shock to learn that the A-list pop star included her own music in her and Travis Kelce's nuptials. Though we highlighted some of Taylor Swift's best song lyrics about marriage ahead of her wedding, you may be surprised to learn which of those songs actually ended up integrated into the ceremony.

With Swift and Kelce's secretive wedding being the talk of the internet, fans and detractors alike are chomping at the bit for more information on the ceremony. While we know what the worst-dressed attendees at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding wore, who officiated the ceremony (actor Adam Sandler), and that the guest list was capped at 1,000, everyone is still waiting for more information to drop. Some guests are finally beginning to reveal pieces of what the ceremony entailed, including how much of Swift's music was used in and for the ceremony (spoiler alert: it was a lot). According to these sources, some of Swift's musical references were more in-your-face, but the singer also included some low-key nods to her biggest hits. Whether you're a diehard Swiftie or a critic of the pop queen, after reading this list, you'll agree that Swift knows allusion like the back of her hand.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce gifted guests handkerchiefs embroidered with Blank Space lyrics

One of the keepsakes given to guests at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding included a nod to one of Swift's biggest hits. Country singer Maren Morris shared a photo on Instagram of an embroidered lace handkerchief from the ceremony. In addition to the T&T monogram spotted around the event, the embroidery featured the date and location of the wedding, as well as part of a lyric from Swift's 2014 song "Blank Space." It read "So it's gonna be forever ... " – notably omitting the second, more pessimistic part of the verse ("or it's gonna go down in flames").

This song choice may be a sweet reference to their relationship. Kelce appeared on a June 2024 episode of the "Bussin' With The Boys" podcast, where he revealed that "Blank Space" is his favorite song by Swift. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end explained that "1989" (the album "Blank Space is featured on) marked his first exposure to Swift's music.

Taylor Swift reportedly walked down the aisle to one of her own songs

In a divisive move, Taylor Swift walked down the aisle to her own music. TMZ reported that the A-list singer opted for a string rendition of one of her most well-known songs for her big moment. According to pop culture outlet Deuxmoi, inside sources claim that the specific song Swift chose was "Love Story," a fitting choice. These sources allege that the "Love Story" music video set was recreated for her walk, rounding out the self-reference.

While online opinion is mixed regarding Swift's choice, guests were reportedly moved by the showing, with many reduced to tears by the moment and Swift's subsequent vows. Given the sweet marriage advice Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce would later get from officiant Adam Sandler, it is safe to say that the ceremony — song and all — wrapped up the pair's perfect "Love Story" quite well.

Taylor Swift's Welcome to New York is an ode to the city she chose to host her nuptials

While Taylor Swift was born in Pennsylvania and started her career as a teen country star in Tennessee, the singer seems to have a deep connection to New York City. Swift owns properties all across the United States, but bought multiple adjacent apartments in Tribeca that she frequently lives in. She even has multiple songs referencing New York, one of the most obvious being her 2014 love letter to the city entitled "Welcome to New York."

That said, Swift's choice to host her wedding at the largest indoor venue in New York City could be another low-key reference to her music. Swift and Travis Kelce's nuptials and reception were held at Madison Square Garden on July 3, kicking off the holiday weekend with a "bang." Swift's grand NYC wedding was certainly the most elaborate way for the singer to show her appreciation for the city she now calls home — now we're just wondering if "Welcome to New York" was on the DJ's setlist for the T&T reception.

A gift from the raffle at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding was their own Getaway Car

In one of the most unorthodox moments at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding, the pair reportedly raffled off expensive gifts to their guests. Two attendees who spoke to NBC News explained that everyone was invited to play games during the reception to win tickets. The tickets were then entered into a raffle, where the prizes reportedly included designer bags and a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle; the latter of which is the same car model that Swift and Kelce were spotted in during their first date.

While we don't yet know who won the car, we suspect that the gift, while clearly referencing the couple's first date, may also be a cheeky reference to another of Swift's songs. In 2017, Swift released "Getaway Car" on her album "Reputation." Swifties debate what (and who) the song is actually about, but most seem to agree that the underlying theme is about the fleeting nature of rebound relationships. Perhaps Swift and Kelce's raffle symbolizes ditching short-term "Getaway Car" relationships in favor of a long-lasting romance between them.
