Born Zara Mohamed Abdulmajid in Mogadishu, Somalia in July of 1955, Iman broke racial barriers when she became one of the first Black supermodels after being discovered in 1975. Iman stunned as a supermodel in the '80s, modeling for top designers including Versace and YSL, and gracing the covers of major magazines like Vogue. She even landed acting roles, with films like 1985's "Out of Africa" and 1987's "No Way Out." Iman, who was famously married to rock legend David Bowie from 1992 until his death in 2016, always made it a point to give back. She was a passionate philanthropist, working with organizations like CARE and Raise Hope for Congo.

Iman also used her knowledge of beauty to expand her empire, by writing two books on the topic and founding a cosmetics line. The mom of two authored "I Am Iman," a visual memoir about modeling, and "The Beauty of Color," a beauty and makeup guide for women of color. She launched IMAN Cosmetics in 1994, which went on to become a multimillion-dollar brand. Iman once said, "I believe in glamour. I am in favor of a little vanity. I don't rely on just my genes. Looking good is a commitment to yourself and to others. Wigs, killer heels, Pilates, even fillers — whatever works for you, honey." That was in 2010, when a then 55-year-old Iman sat down with Harper's Bazaar to discuss her beauty routine and aging. Iman wasn't afraid to admit that she wanted to look good, and that she worked hard to make sure she did.
