The Real-Life Partners Of Heartland's Leading Ladies
CBC's "Heartland" boasts 19 successful seasons and counting, making it the longest-running television drama series in Canada. The show takes place on a family ranch and follows horse whisperer Amy Fleming as she navigates domestic hardships and life with her older sister Lou. Season 9 of "Heartland," which began as a book series by Lauren Brooke, marked a historical milestone for the production as each new episode garnered over 1 million views. The show's ability to tackle relatable issues (infidelity, depression, natural disasters, etc.) and introduce interesting new characters helped secure its large fanbase.
With many "Heartland" stars appearing in more than 150 episodes, the show's beloved characters have become somewhat synonymous with the actors who play them, and so have their on-screen relationships. For instance, Amber Marshall and Graham Wardle's and Michelle Morgan and Gabriel Hogan's on-screen romances have captured the hearts of millions with their chemistry. The "Heartland" leading ladies, minus Jessica Steen and the Spencer sisters, have publicly shared that they are in relationships, and here are their real-life partners.
Amber Marshall and her husband live on a farm
Amber Marshall, known for her role as Amy Fleming, married photographer Shawn Turner in 2015. The two met at a horse trade show and have been inseparable since. Marshall and Turner didn't meet on set like many of the "When Calls the Heart" leading ladies and their real-life partners, but their love story is just as cinematic.
On brand but unscripted, they wed at their ranch near High River, Alberta, one of the places where "Heartland" is actually filmed. The ceremony was a standout event featuring horses, cowboy hats, and fellow CBC stars. Marshall wore a mermaid silhouette wedding dress from Private Label by G, while her husband sported black sunglasses, a cowboy hat, and boots. The groom also proved to be quite the craftsman, constructing a wooden altar with their names engraved on it for the occasion. During CBC's behind-the-scenes coverage of the special day, Marshall also described Turner as romantic while the two reminisced about the day he popped the question at a neighboring river. The proposal was enhanced by the presence of their dogs and celebratory champagne.
More than ten years later, the couple has moved from the ranch where their forever began to a new plot of land. Here, they've built their forever home from the ground up, still maintaining a lifestyle strikingly similar to that of the "Heartland" family. Reflecting on her personal growth, Marshall is grateful for her husband's emotional support as she continues to balance acting, entrepreneurship, and equestrianism. "Shawn's my sounding board," she told Cowgirl. "He's gentle but honest. If I've had a bad day, he'll say, 'I know it was rough, but I didn't make it rough, so let's find a way to be happy tonight.' Sometimes I need that little poke."
Michelle Morgan's husband remains a bit of a mystery
Known for her role as Lou Fleming, Michelle Morgan is pretty good at keeping her acting career the focus in the press. In fact, many may not know that the star is married to a day trader and commercial pilot named Derek Tisdelle. Morgan's husband, who remains largely out of the limelight, is rarely the focus of her interviews, though she occasionally mentions him in passing. As far as their relationship's start, the two met shortly after Morgan graduated from college, eventually moving in together and welcoming their first child.
During a rare 2011 interview, the star spoke about Tisdelle's ability to stay grounded even during challenges as a first-time parent. "He is so cool and calm. At those times when I am most frustrated and exhausted, he is always ready to step up and take control," she told Parents Canada, after they welcomed their first of three children. "He is very good at keeping his cool when Mara and I are both in tears."
Like his wife, Tisdelle is also talented behind the camera. He is credited with producing short films, "Mi Madre, My Father" and "Save Yourself." Occasionally, Morgan shares photos of her spouse and their children on her Instagram, including a throwback photo from when they attended her sister's wedding. But outside of these insights, Tisdelle remains a bit of a mystery.
Alisha Newton shared dreamy engagement photos with fiancé Trevor
Alisha Newton, who played Georgie Fleming Morris in "Heartland," announced her engagement to her boyfriend Trevor on Instagram in July 2025. The post, captioned "Forever my T," consisted of dreamy Western-themed photos taken during sunset. If you're feeling inspired to do your own photoshoot after seeing Newton's post, this Western-inspired print trend is the perfect way to kick your outfits up a notch; though, Newton and her fiancé opted for simpler attire. The actor showed off a radiant engagement ring with a gold band, and both wore a mix of white and denim clothing throughout the series of photos. While the exact date of Trevor's proposal is unknown, in December 2025, the actor shared an Instagram reel featuring a montage of clips from the year. One of the clips shows her soon-to-be-husband on one knee mid-hiking trip.
While most of the details of their relationship remain private, the announcement came after the two purchased a home together in 2023. The "My Life with the Walter Boys" star shared the news in September of that year. "Back in June, I purchased my first home with my boyfriend and have (not so patiently) been waiting to finally receive possession and move in," she captioned the carousel post featuring a photo of Trevor kissing her cheek. "I've also been DYING to share everything with you, but I tend not to share things until they are certain." While the relationship updates are rare, we hope Newton's next post is about the wedding.
In the meantime, check out the Western baby names making a major comeback in 2026.
