Princess Eugenie's Baby Name For Newborn Daughter Is Equally Regal & Sweet

Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank just welcomed their third child, and her name is just as posh and princess-like as her mother's. Eugenie, who wore one of the most timeless modern royal wedding dresses for her and Brooksbank's 2018 nuptials, announced the birth of her first daughter on August 3, 2026 — without disclosing her name. Two weeks later, Eugenie would reveal her daughter's full moniker to the public: Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.

The announcement was posted to Eugenie's Instagram page, where she further explained the meaning behind Adelaide's name. "Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts," Eugenie wrote in the post's caption. "Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home." While Adelaide's middle name is a sweet homage to Eugenie's grandmother Queen Elizabeth (with "Annina" likely coming from Eugenie's close friend Countess Annina Bruges von Pfuel), her first name is a more niche reference to English royalty.

According to Daily Mail's royal editor Rebecca English on X, the infant's name is inspired by Queen Adelaide, who married William IV in 1818, and Maria Adelaide of Portugal, who was the Princess of Braganza. English also noted that Eugenie wore diamond brooches at her wedding reception that were commissioned by William IV for Queen Adelaide. Given how much thought (and heart) Eugenie and Brooksbank put into their daughter's name, it will certainly join the cohort of the most unique royal family baby names with deep meanings.

Princess Eugenie's daughter isn't the only royal whose name is a nod to Queen Elizabeth

Princess Eugenie's daughter Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank may share part of her name with her late great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, but she's far from the only royal to do so. Among the royal women to have Elizabeth as a middle name are Princess Beatrice, Zara Tindall, and Lady Louise. However, the youngest children in the British royal family also have Elizabeth-inspired names. Tindall's daughter Lena Elizabeth, as well as Beatrice's daughters Sienna Elizabeth and Athena Elizabeth Rose also share their great-grandmother's name.

Kate Middleton and Prince William's daughter Princess Charlotte's full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, referencing both William's late mother and grandmother. Meghan Markle, whose baby-naming advice comes down to not asking for outside opinions, and Prince Harry named their daughter Princess Lilibet Diana; Lilibet was Queen Elizabeth's childhood nickname, and, like Kate and William, Meghan and Harry chose to honor Princess Diana with their daughter's second name. For as influential as Queen Elizabeth was during her 70-year reign, it is no surprise that her extended family would wish to honor her legacy through sweet name tributes.
