There was nothing quite like the sitcoms of the '80s. They were family-friendly, showcased lots of big hair, and offered corny jokes we loved to groan at. There was always that one long-suffering relative and a wise-cracker for comedic relief. And of course, we can't forget the TV moms that practically raised us. From Elyse Keaton of "Family Ties" to Harriette Winslow on "Family Matters," these on-screen matriarchs were full of infinite wisdom with a side of sass.

Now that four decades have passed, some of the actors, like Meredith Baxter, have mostly stayed out of the public eye (though she's still living her best life with her wife, Nancy Locke). Others, like Phylicia Rashad from "The Cosby Show," remain in the spotlight on television and in the theater. It's astonishing to see how different these ladies look in their golden years, but they're still just as gorgeous as ever. Here's what these iconic sitcom figures of the eighties look like now.

"Family Ties" was one of the more serious sitcoms of the '80s, balancing themes of political differences during the Reagan era with loving, lighthearted moments. At the heart of the family was matriarch Elyse Keaton, played by Meredith Baxter. When the show started, she was around 35 years old, making her a pretty young mother, as Alex Keaton (played by Michael J. Fox) was in high school. Still, she played the role of Elyse gorgeously, with shoulder-length blond hair and no-fuss makeup. Now in her late 70s, Baxter has taken the same natural approach to beauty, though her hair color is much different now.

Every sitcom needs a no-nonsense voice of reason, and that was Harriette Winslow of "Family Matters." Actor Jo Marie Payton fit the part perfectly with her many hilarious facial expressions that told her family members just what she thought of their antics. The ABC show premiered in 1989, so Payton's voluminous curly hair fit right in with the times. She kept it big throughout the seasons, growing it longer the next year into a modified mullet.

She must have some great genes because as a 76-year-old woman, her locks look just as thick and healthy. On August 3, the birthday girl thanked fans on Instagram for their warm wishes, showing off a cropped 'do with plenty of height at the crown. Her skin looked just as youthful as ever, with hardly any lines. A fan commented, "I definitely need instructions on how to look so young at your age. You don't look a day over 29!!"

"Married... with Children" was one of the most hilarious sitcoms from the '80s, and it has since become a cult classic, with many still dressing as Peggy Bundy for Halloween. Known for her huge red bouffant, which is a hair trend with origins in the 1960s you may have forgotten about, actor Katey Sagal really leaned into the tacky housewife look. Her hair only got bigger throughout the seasons, while the outfits got tighter and louder. It turned out that Sagal purposely styled herself that way in the beginning, hoping to disguise herself so that nobody recognized her as a singer. "She's really in drag. She just was all dolled up. Light wasn't kidding about her wallet-friendly beauty routine, either. In 2025, she told Glamour, "Vaseline! It's my go-to. It's amazing.
