What Nicole Kidman Has Said About Her Famous Exes Over The Years

Hollywood star Nicole Kidman has been in the spotlight since the late '80s, and with that, we got to see the actor go through all of the highs and lows of being in love. At the beginning of her career, her publicized romance with fellow Hollywood star Tom Cruise made them one of the celeb couples that ruled '90s red carpets, but as most know, their romance didn't last. In the mid-2000s, Kidman became romantically involved with country star Keith Urban, and their relationship lasted for almost two decades.

Between Cruise and Urban, Kidman dated musician Lenny Kravitz, telling the Edit in 2017 (via Time) that the two remained friends. "Well, I knew Zoë [Kravitz] because I was engaged to her father. It's all in the family! I love Lenny; he's a great guy," Kidman said, explaining her personal connection to her "Big Little Lies" co-star. Kidman and Lenny dated between 2003 and 2004, but since then, we've seen them interact at numerous industry events, like sharing a brief moment at the 2013 CMT Music Awards and catching up at the 2016 Hollywood Film Awards.

Nicole Kidman said that she was willing to throw away her career for Tom Cruise

After meeting on the set of the 1990 film "Days of Thunder," Nicole Kidman and actor Tom Cruise started their whirlwind romance. By the end of 1990, the two tied the knot, becoming one of Hollywood's '90s power couples. In 2002, Kidman opened up to Vanity Fair, sharing that she was head over heels in love with Cruise. "He basically swept me off my feet. I fell madly, passionately in love. And as happens when you fall in love, my whole plan in terms of what I wanted for my life — I was like, 'Forget it. This is it,'" she admitted, adding, "I was consumed by it, willingly. And I was desperate to have a baby with him."

The two actors adopted two children in the early '90s, and they also continued working together, starring in the 1995 film "Far and Away" and the 1999 film "Eyes Wide Shut." However, by the early aughts, things had changed and Cruise filed for divorce in February 2001.

Speaking to Vogue in 2026, Kidman reflected on being married in her 20s, saying, "I got married so young... Suddenly I was 22, 23 years old and I had this huge movie star husband. But it just seemed completely natural. We just fell madly in love, and it was that simple," the "Babygirl" star revealed. "I remember people saying to me, 'OK, well this is really going to affect your career.' I'm like, 'I don't care. I'm in love. I want to be married... Of course I'll throw my career away. I don't care.'"

Nicole Kidman revealed that she didn't expect her and Keith Urban to ever divorce

In 2005, Nicole Kidman met country singer Keith Urban, and the two tied the knot a year later. In 2008, Kidman gave birth to the couple's first daughter, and they welcomed their second daughter via surrogate in 2010. In 2019, Kidman revealed that she knew early on that she wanted to marry the "Somebody Like You" singer. "It was my [38th] birthday, and he stood outside with gardenias at 5 a.m. on my stoop in New York," she shared with People in 2019. "That is when I went, 'This is the man I hope I get to marry.'" In 2018, Kidman gushed about Urban, telling W, "I love saying that I'm married to a really generous, kind, strong male. And Keith is incredibly supportive of me and his daughters."

While there have been quite a few red flags in Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's relationship, many were surprised when the two announced they were parting ways after almost 20 years. News of their separation broke in 2025, and their divorce was finalized in January 2026. Speaking of their decision to separate, Kidman told Vogue in 2026 that she simply followed her feelings, but the separation isn't something she expected. "I'm like, 'OK, I didn't expect this. I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now.' You make all these plans, and you have all these ideas of what it's all going to be like, and then it's... not," she shared, adding, "You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it's completely unknown to me right now." And the star has certainly adapted to her new life, as Nicole Kidman dressed for revenge after her Keith Urban divorce
